Hi -
Our ML club has a .32 percussion as a club kid's gun. The old
grandpa's of the club donated the gun and all other things needed
(patches, capper, short starter, jags, safety glasses, ect...)so any
kid who comes out with the parents can shoot too. **The kids LOVE
it - we have a shooting bag and little powder horn for them to wear,
and they get hooked.
As far as accuracy, a child with no experience can hit the bull at 12
1/2 yards. (We use a larger bull target, say a 100 yd. one). A child
with just a little experience can score about a 30 out of 50 at 25
yds easily. We use 12 grains 3F Goex for both ranges, with a .10 pre-
cut patch. You could try a tighter load to bring the shots in, but
we keep it loose for the kids so it is easier to load. At longer
ranges, they've hit novelty targets and dingers with decent results.
The local sporting
> goods store in town has a Traditions Crockett
Ha! That's the gun I started with - only at .36. She can be a nail
driver with practice and sight adjustments. My Crockett was a great
gun to start with. My daughter now uses it, and does well. 50 yds
is her favorite - pre-teens, go figure...
The Crockett has a good reputation in my experience. You have to
clean almost between every shot, but I think that would go for any
gun at that caliber.
Have fun getting them limb chickens!
