Re: [Muzzleloaders] Roundballs For Deer

Of course every person has their own idea of what
would be best. There are different ways of hunting
too. Wasn't trying to be a know-it-all, just passing
along my personal 2 cents worth since it took me so
long to come to that conclusion.
I've got a .36 caliber Pedersoli "Frontier" rifle I
use for barnyard varmits and squirrels. Comes in handy
for coyotes. I was plain lucky that the twist rate
happens to be 1:48 because every caliber they made
that rifle in is 1:48. I didn't know any better when I
bought it but it worked out fine.
Also have a .45 Pedersoli Kentucky pistol, a .50 CVA
Hawkins pistol, and a .50 TC Hawken made in the 70's.
I was thinking about a replacement barrel for that one
since there is such a variety of calibers to choose
from. I'd love to build a Manton rifle or an "Edward
Marshall" rifle or maybe a real close replica of a
Wolfgang Haga rifle. I already found all the parts i'd
need for all of these.

Alright, I take back my comments on here about the perfect roundball deer rifle. A .58 caliber with a 1:116 twist rate is not a good idea. It would be fine ...

I agree that the larger bullets have more stopping power than the smaller calibers ones. I have taken several elk and moose with the .75 caliber Brown Bess...
