Kenny Dunaway's Multisport Report

Jan. 5, 2005
"I fear there will be no more future for those who do not change." Louis L'Amour

Happy New Year. I think the year is off to a good start with lots of folks out and about already in hot pursuit of individual goals and objectives. As you can see by the attached event list, there's lots for which multisporters can prepare. There should be ample opportunity to participate or compete in numerous types and lengths of events across the state. Stay tuned for updates, adjustments, and additions to the scheduled. Do let me know if there are changes needed in the attached date listings.

By the way, I'm sorry I listed last week's enewsletter as Jan. 29 or so when it should have been a December date. I get confused sometimes. I don't want the year to pass by faster than I know it will anyway.

I've got a smattering of nominations for multisporters of the year, and interestingly they are mostly from Southeast Louisiana. I've got none from the Baton Rouge area, the Lake Charles area, the Monroe area, Alexandria area, Ruston area, or Shreveport area. I can't believe there are no multisporters in those areas not worthy of being nominated. Let me hear from you. Think of a training buddy, a race director, someone who embodies the spirit of duathlon, triathlon, swimming, running, or race/event administration. Let me hear from you before I close the door on the only printed edition of the year.

I could still use some photos for the publication, too. Send me some of your best action shots and I'll see if I can use them.

We're getting close to finalizing the annual printed edition of the Louisiana Multisport Report. I so appreciate so many being involved to keep the competitive fitness community up to date on what race is taking place when and who's racing well and often. I can still take a few more ads if I have completed material by noon central time in Baton Rouge. Email T2DesignsLA@... for ad instructions for emailable material.

Below is yet another rough draft of rankings of Louisiana triathletes and duathletes for 2004. Again, permit me to remind you that the focus of the Louisiana rankings in Louisiana residents racing in Louisiana events. Multisporters may have raced much more out of state and maybe even raced comparatively better out of state. We salute all of you racing and racing well out of state. But that's not the focus of our printed annual edition of the Louisiana Multisport Report. So, there may be some folks ranked high whom you believe are slower than you. The reason may be that these folks raced more often in Louisiana and raced fairly well when they raced in the state. In our 11th year of rankings, I again remind you that these rankings are not always to the fastest but to those who race the most and do so as resident at events in the state.

If we can't find folks' hometowns where there is no hometown listed, we may DQ them and defer to folks whose hometowns we have confirmed. We don't want Texas, Mississippi or other out of staters creeping into our unique Louisiana rankings.

I still hope that one day -- maybe in 2005 -- we can have run rankings again and maybe even some age-group rankings for swimmers. Surely there is someone out there who can take on that task.

But for now we press on with data we have on duathletes, traithletes, and competitive cyclists. We want to check and recheck to make sure names that we have are spelled right, hometowns listed accurately, obvious omissions, etc. The final version -- after what adjustments are necessary -- will be included in the printed edition of the Louisiana Multisport Report, due out later this month.
