Kenny Dunaway's Multisport Report

Nov. 17, 2004

"Pursue your passion and live your dream." Katherine Logan

I know you missed the report these last two weeks, but I'm back after
a long vacation and working full steam ahead on the printed edition
of the next Louisiana Multisport Report. This coming Friday is the
deadline for advertising space reservations for those who want to
include materials.

I've had trouble with my direct email functions, so bear with me.
Remember you can always go directly to multisportreport.com for the
latest information.

If you have a service, product, event, or club to promote, I do hope
you will consider using our once-a-year publication to make your
announcements. The advertising income generated for the Louisiana
Multisport Report is what enables us to print and send the edition to
folks all over the state free of charge.

Full page ad is $390, a half pager is $250 and a quarter pager is
$170 all black and white set for printing on an 8.5-inch x 11-inch
format. Materials are due Dec. 13, at noon CST in Baton Rouge.

If you are a Louisiana resident and you did an Ironman-distance
triathlon
event this calendar year, we want to recognize you in the printed
edition of
the Louisiana Multisport Report that will be distributed in early
2005. Send
your name and details on your participation in the event to Joe Lee at
<Joe.Lee@...>.

Attached are very very rough and early drafts of Louisiana triathlon
rankings of Louisiana multisporters racing in Louisiana events in
calendar year 2004. We know we've missed some folks and we are aware
of some adjustments already and we're working on revisions even now.
But check the list and let me and Ben Hawn know of details necessary
to make the list as accurate as possible. Email me or Ben Hawn at
b.w.hawn@... with questions, changes or clarifications.
If you have multisport friends in the Louisiana rankings hunt who do
not use the internet, do share this data with them.

We are still working on duathlon rankings for Louisiana. By the way,
if you have someone (a Louisiana resident who has raced Louisiana
events) whom you would like to nominate for Louisiana multisporter of
the year, email me and let me hear why that person should be
considered. Also, let me hear from you in the cyber world what you
think the best fitness web sites are -- cycling, running,
multisporting, etc. I would like to recognize those in our fitness
circles who are working hard to keep us all informed about our
hobbies.

Ironman Florida 2005 has sold out as of Nov.7, 2004 in less than
nine hours
since registration was opened.

Jam Rides Dates Set for Nov. 24-28 in Felicianas
From Al St. Pierre <alstpierre3@...>
As most of you know the BRBC is holding our annual multi-day cycling
event from Nov 24 - Nov 28. JAM brings in riders from many different
parts of the country for good riding, good food and great friendships.
If anyone is interested in volunteering to assist in the planning and
execution of this event please contact me ASAP. I need people to
assist with SAGs (and if I'm lucky someone to coordinate the SAG
volunteers), people to make desserts, people to help cook meals on
Thursday and Friday, someone to assist me in putting the routes
together,etc.

If you want to volunteer but don't see how any of the above jobs mesh
with your special talents please don't hesitate to contact me anyway.
I'm sure there are ways that anyone can contribute( and even enjoy
it!). My home phone is 924-7650(It's going to change next week)
and my cell is 225/772-5167.

Indian Creek, Opelousas Duathlon, CajunMan Triathlon Details Noted
From Brad Colwell, Rusty Bex,
The 2005 Indian Creek Triathlon is scheduled for
Sunday, June 12, 2005. Yes, you heard right: we are going to the
Olympic distance next year. Here are the particulars.

Distances: 1.5km swim/40km Bike/10km run
Time: 7 a.m. start (30 minutes earlier than normal)
I understand that the Nokia Sugar Bowl Triathlon in the New Orleans
area is
schedule for May 29th, giving the state two Olympic-distance
triathlons two
weeks apart.

I guess what really has us excited for next year is
the opportunity to partner up with Best Buddies of
Louisiana, (www.bestbuddieslouisiana.org) This is an organization
dedicated
to enhancing the lives of individuals with intellectual/developmental
disabilities throughout our great state. Indian Creek Triathlon
is committed to dedicating a significant portion of
its proceeds to support Best Buddies of Louisiana and
its many chapters in middle schools, high schools and
colleges.

I encourage the multi-sport community of
Louisiana to check out the Best Buddies website to see
what Marti Luke and her staff are doing to enrich the
lives of these disabled citizens.

of
May 29, 2005. With a prize purse of $2,500, this event became a

USA Triathlon Regional Rankings Posted
From Olen [muscle.boy@...]
New regional rankings as of Nov. 4, 2004 have been posted on our
USA Triathlon regional website. Nine new triathlons and six new
duathlons have been added.

Eligible multisporters must have completed three triathlons in the
region in order to be
ranked in the regional triathlon rankings. www.smwtriathlon.org

Multisporters must have completed three duathlons in the region in
order to be
ranked in the duathlon rankings. www.smwtriathlon.org. Participants
in elite waves do not count in the rankings.
All of your races must have had the results sent to Ed Whitcomb for
ranking. Contact information is listed on the rankings page. If your
race does not appear on the list above the rankings on the rankings
page, it is
not included. If one of your races is not included, it does not count
towards the three race requirement.

Before you send inquiries about not being ranked, check the website
and
look at the file of atheletes who have rankings problems. It may be
that your number, name, age, etc was missing when the results were
sent
in and need manual correction. Most of the time of the time, all
rankings
questions you may have can be solved by you without contacting
Whitcomb.

Currently there are 237 men and 64 women ranked in duathlon. Last year
final count, we had 205 men and 62 women. Currently there are 1,390

New York City Marathon Brings Out Louisiana Runners
Britain's Paula Radcliffe fought off Kenya's Susan Chepkemei to
capture the closest women's race in the New York City Marathon's 35-
year
history, winning by four seconds in 2 hours, 23 minutes, 10 seconds.
Radcliffe failed to win the Olympic marathon in Greece or finish
either of
her two races in Greece.

Hendrik Ramaala of South Africa won the men's race in 2:09:28 for his
first marathon victory. Ramaala also dropped out of the Olympic
marathon with a
pulled hamstring. Olympic silver medallist Meb Keflezighi of the U.S.
was
second, 25 seconds behind. This race marked first time in four years
there
was no Kenyan winner.

Tandem Bike For Sale
From Kathleen Callaghan
Nice 1986 model Santana Marathon tandem for sale. The original blue
paint
job, with only a few minor nicks, looks great! It's a good size at 22
x
21, and perfect for either two strong riders who can really move at a
good
clip or two riders of very differing abilities, adult or child, who
normally
can't ride together. A couple of years ago we had it cleaned, lubed
and
adjusted, and had a cycle computer and new tires and tubes installed
on
it.

It also has a rear rack. In addition, we have a kid-back attachment
and a
tandem-sized roof rack tray available. We've taken long and short
trips on
this bike and it's a lot of fun and a great way for a family or a
couple
to travel.

The only reason I want to sell it is that we don't have time to ride
it any
more. We keep it inside, so it doesn't get exposed to humidity,
temperature
changes or excessive dust and dirt.

I talked with a Santana rep who told me that the bike is worth about
$1,500
and the child stoker conversion attachment is worth at least another
$150.
For $1,200 though, I'll sell everything as a complete package,
including the
bike, the child conversion kit and the rack tray. Only serious
inquiries,
please. Phone Kathleen at 225/338-9340 (home) or 225/342-9938 (work)
or
e-mail katcall@.... (FYI, I also have several boxes of bicycle
and rack
related components that I'm willing to part with ... if you want to
take a
look and make a reasonable offer, contact me.)

That's it from here. Bless God America.
