It's GatorMan Triathlon weekend in Lake Charles. There are not many more triathlons for the calendar year; get 'em while you can. Don't forget LSU, Tulane, UNO sometimes have low-key events you might want to check out on their respective campuses. Oh yes, it's the weekend for the New Orleans Komen Foundation's Race for the Cure 5km, too.

With cool temperatures, you can't help but think of the annual MS Tour for Cure staged in Hammond. It seems like this event is often staged on one of the first cool weekends of the fall. This is a great two-day ride from the Florida Parishes up to McComb, MS one day and then back the next. Traditionally the well-organized event brings out lots of riders in all forms, shapes sizes and using all sorts of bikes.
Of course, Mike Shore's Halloween Duathlon is coming up soon in Monroe soon, too.
Miss and Greg Kujawa of the Northshore want to remind folks of the Oct. 16

Cancelled Santa Rosa Triathlon Seeks to Use Entry Fees as Donations
From Charles Knight
Fellow triathletes, Please join me in donating your entry fee to the
cancelled Santa Rosa Triathlon as a gesture of aid to help the folks in north Florida in the wake
of hurricane Ivan. There's a huge administrative effort in refunding fees
and paying for items like tshirts and other items in the registration packet
that already required payment. I urge you to consider your entry fee as a
donation in the wake of an incredible natural disaster.

9 and the place is New Orleans. If you have finished a USARA sanctioned

Lake Grapevine "North Shore" Adventure Race Oct. 16, 2004
Adventure Sports Promotions brings Adventure Racing to the North Shore. Our "Sprint Distance" Adventure Races are the perfect distance for teams new to the sport, as well as experienced teams who prefer the shorter "Push it to the Max" course distance. Categories are two-person teams of, male, female, or co-ed (not a relay). The actual course layout and distances are not revealed until the race start, and consist of: Trail Running (two to three miles) off-road biking (seven to ten miles) Kayaking (one to two miles) and should take the average team about 2.5 hours to complete. We provide the boats, paddles, and you provide a trail capable bike, running shoes, and a willing teammate. Cost for early registration is still only $55 per person. More info may be found at www.HavingFunInc.com or 405/822-2877.
BREC Offering Cycling Instructor Certification Instruction
From Kathy Stites
I got a call last week from Lindy Burns of Baton Rouge at BREC
(225/272-9200) saying that they had about ten spaces available for person wishing
to enroll in the cycling instructor certification program to be held
in late October and early November, 2004. This class is administered
by the Bike League and will be held at the Baton Rouge's Independence Park
Rec Center. The classes are available at no charge to participants from
the State of Louisiana -- fees will be paid for you through a
transportation grant that BREC had renewed this year. You will be
certified to teach cycling safety classes to adults and children.
If interested, please contact Lindy at the number above.

I am selling my two-bike Rhode Gear Pro hitch rack. IT has some pretty
useful features:
- tilts back so you can get into your trunk
- rack is removable from base so you don't have to pull the whole thing out
of your hitch when you aren't using it
- has a built-in cable lock
- arms fold down when not in use
It fits a 1-1/4" receiver (you can get an adapter for a 2").
Asking $100. (I believe they are around $200 new.)
It looks like this:

I really liked it, but I just don't need it since I have the roof rack.
We're also asking $25 for our "Dogloo" dog house (you know, the one that
looks like an igloo), if anyone is interested. It was $60 new and has never
been used. It has sat outside but still is in good condition. Both my 40-lb
dogs can fit in there, but they ended up being indoor dogs.

I've got a Total Gym 11000 for sale. I picked it up in San Diego three
years ago from the actual Total Gym corporation. It's been used a handful
of times, but after getting into cycling last year, I haven't touched
it--it's in like new condition. As I mentioned, this isn't the flimsy Chuck
Norris/Christie Brinkley Taiwanese model you've seen on TV. It's 5 models
above the infomercial variety. Check out this link for a comparison:
http://www.bodytrends.com/products/gym/totalgymcomparison.htm
I've attached some pics of the unit. PICT0001 shows the gym set up and the
accessories I have. You can see one accessory already mounted: the pull-up
bar. There's
also an exercise flip-chart hanging on the back of the machine. The owner's
manual is lying on the glideboard.

PICT0003 is a close-up of the remaining accessories. Clockwise, from the
top: extra large squat stand, resistance elevator (to squeeze out an even
higher percentage of your body weight to use as resistance), dip bar, ankle/thigh
cuff, versatile wing attachment and strap (for doing pull-ups, crunches,
military press, and others). I haven't ventured up there yet, but somewhere
in my attic is a weight bar as well, used to add weights to the machine to
get even more resistance. PICT0004 and PICT0005 give you an idea of how
well and sturdy the machine is made.
I'm asking $1,100 for everything, and I'll bring the equipment to your house
if you like. If you live way out there, we'll arrange a mid-point drop-off
or something. Let me know if you have any questions, would like to see more
pics, or would even like to come over and try it out.

That's it from here. Bless God America.
