Don't forget the important of Sept. 11!
David Alexander's fantasy Veulta a Espangna is whipping me badly with what turns out to be a weak team I've picked. I'm last on the list in the fantasy cycling competition and prospects of improvement are not good. It's been fun to "experience" the Spanish version of the Tour de France via a fantasy team. Alexander has lots of donated prizes up for grabs in the Louisiana contest he has going to raise money for the Lance Armstrong Foundation. Get the details at
This is the CajunMan Triathlon weekend and no doubt lots of other fitness events going on elsewhere. Organizations are cranking up their fall season fitness events. Check out your local running/swimming/cycling web sites for details.
I am looking forward to the CajunMan Triathlon, which race director Rusty Bex has put his heart and soul into. He and his team of dedicated race volunteers put on nothing less than a first-class event. He has fought all sorts of events to develop the event into a big-time triathlon. Thank God he isn't fighting hurricanes -- at least not as of this writing.
There's still time and room to enter the Meat Pie Triathlon not this weekend but the next in Natchitoches. Also, congratulations to New Orleans cyclist extraordinaire Kenny Bellau, who did very well at the Atlanta, GA 10km bike race. Way to go dude. There were other Louisiana cyclists racing the big-time event, but I don't know them and their names; forgive me.
Is this another big-time Ironman-distance triathlon weekend? I think it is? Good luck to Louisiana triathletes doing or preparing to do Ironman-distance triathlons across the globe.

Run in Lafayette Raising Money for Trails Project Set Sept. 17
From Scott Schilling [mailto:sschilling@...]
It has been time for another real fun run, that is, the second quasi-semi-annual "Real Fun Run." This is a great group run if you are recovering from the after party of CajunMan Triathlon or in training for the after party of Big Pete's Classic, Cajun Cup 10km or Acadiana Half Marathon.
When:
The date is definite Friday Sept. 17, 2004 with the group running at 5:30 p.m..
Where:
The route is still on the planning board but will start downtown (to be determined, but near down town alive site) head to The Fillin' Station (5:45 p.m.) then into the Saint Street area to Champagne's Grocery and Deli on Souvenir Gate (6:15 p.m.) then to Bisbano's (6:45 p.m.) back to the Fillin' Station (7:15 p.m.) and finishing at Acadiana's "Down Town Alive" at a Bud Light Draught trailer (7:45 p.m.). The total distance will be about five miles. This is a casual group run, but bikes, roller blades and other support vehicles are welcomed and appreciated.
Why and How Much:
This run is to benefit T.R.A.I.L. a local non-profit organization dedicated to developing bike and pedestrian pathways throughout Louisiana. A donation of $30 to TRAILs will greatly help with the event and score you some great gifts from companies supporting T.R.A.I.L.s.
Help:
There is no registration but to help with planning and coordinating please send me an email or call me if you are seriously thinking about have a great time on Sept. 17. First estimate are for about 70 people dashing around down town looking for a cold Michelobe Ultra or Bud. Last time we visited Casa Olé then Village Market then Pete's then LaFonda's and then we doubled back. We had 27 people even though there was probably 27 inches of rain that day.
Prizes:
Everyone wins by participating but we are considering prizes for the best dressed bike and best dressed runner.

Shreveporters Race Well in Texas
From Alan Moore
Y'all know me. I like to brag on "my guys" when they do well out of the
competitive cycling region. Shreveport-based Team LaS'port sent a small
contingent to the newly returned USCF road races at Hotter'n'Hell in Wichita
Falls, Texas and we did okay against the huge race fields that turned out
for the event.
-- Jason Ham, 1st place, Category 5 road race (100km)
He is usually a MTB rider, but entered his first USCF road race and beat the
rest of the field by more than 200 meters!
-- Scott Gurganus, 2nd place, Category 4 road race (100 miles)
- -Joe French, 6th place, Masters 55+ road race (100km)
- -Randy Racine, 7th place, Category 3 road race (100 miles)
Randy actually finished 3rd but everyone in the field was moved back 4 spots
because a 4-man breakaway went the wrong way following the lead vehicle with
500 meters to go. The officials put the four riders in front claiming they
would have won the race anyway. The rest of the field protested saying they
would have caught them before the finish and that the 4 riders were
responsible for knowing the course. The officials won. It was ugly.
Anyway, not bad. Did anybody else from LAMBRA do the races?

Bike for Sale
From Sean Valliant
It is a red Cannondale CAD4 56cm. I am 5 feet 11 inches and it fits me well. It is set up with triathlon bars, mostly Dura Ace components, and Look pedals. I also have a stationary trainer if anyone is interested.
I put the bike together and had it professionally tuned at Bayou Bicycles in early '03. The frame, fork, wheels, and bars are from 2001 -- the rest of the components were new when I put them on in 2003. I have a little more than $1,300 invested in it and am hoping to get $1,000. I am happy to get an opinion from a local bike shop to make sure I am close to the mark.

I am open to a reasonable offer on the bike and would be more than willing to take it to a bike shop of the buyers preference for a complete inspection.
