This is my first year with OLN cabled into my home and wow what an experience to wake up and go to bed with news on the Tour de France. I've thoroughly enjoyed the coverage on the cable station. I can't help but be inspired watching the tour. I just hate that the network is not part of the basic cable package in the Baton Rouge area. Doing the velogames.com fantasy Tour de France has been fun, too. My fantasy team is about mid-pack of some 1,500 teams.
Any word on how the Caney Triathlon outside of Minden went? Remember if for some reason you don't get this enewsletter on a user group or directly via your email address, check out multisportreport.com for the latest editions or back editions.
With Lance Armstrong all over fitness reports everywhere, it was very interesting to read his ex-wife's first-person story about running her first marathon at the White Rock event in Dallas last December. She made very little reference to her famous fitness husband in the article that is in the current issue of Runner's World.
Sam Houston Jones of Lake Charles reported that the T-Gator Tri series was a hit. In the last race Tony Dietz of Lake Charles overtook Chuck Grose of Baton Rouge in the final mile to claim his first triathlon victory in the last race of the 2004 T-Gator Series. Kevin Cart of Lake Charles hinted at a comeback with a surprise last-minute entry and finished third despite a nine-month layoff. Complete results available at www.lakecharlestriathletes.com.

Any reports on running club week-day summer races? I know the Baton Rouge-based Club South Runners events have been fairly well attended. Lots of capital city area high school cross country teams use the events for summer running programs and find themselves performing very well going into the fall season of cross country races.
How's registration going for the Meat Pie Triathlon set for Natchitoches? With so many races filling up fast, this is one that's going into its second year and said to be the up and coming event for north Louisiana.

Cyclists Need to Continue Attention to Political Arena
From Bob Hodges
Area cyclists in the Florida parishes should be interested in an article on the front page of the Times Picayune newspaper about the cool response from the St. Tammany Zoning Commission to a proposed development off of Lee Road north of Section/Fairhaven and Simulusa Estates. I read about this development proposal a few weeks ago that wants to create about 300 five acre homesites on 1,800 acres of land currently zoned as rural. 35 local residents from that area showed up at the commission meeting to express their concerns about increased traffic, traffic accidents, and environmental and aesthetic concerns. We as cyclists should also be interested in this development. Lee Road has become a really nice cycling route since it was re-paved and this development would most certainly increase the traffic pressure. The residents concern is you have to “draw the line” to prevent “wall-to-wall” subdivisions. I’m in agreement with them (for my own selfish cyclist reasons).
There will be another meeting on Aug. 4 at 6 p.m. at the parish council chamber. Commissioners Lombard of Slidell, Willie and Cazaubon of Folsom, and Arceneaux of Lacombe were the commissioners tending to side with the residents.

That's it from here. Bless God America.
