Congratulations to LSU track coach Pat Henry on his new position with Texas A&M University. Henry's world-class track program brought more national track championships to the state than any other track coach in Louisiana or maybe even the deep South. While I'm sorry to see Henry leave Louisiana, I wish him the best and pray he gets lots more involvement and support for his programs in the Republic of Texas. It will be a long time before Louisiana sees a program like Henry built at LSU.
It's a busy weekend for competitive cyclists with a big multi-event race in the Biloxi, MS area. Stay tuned for results of the Mad Potter's races for bikers. There will be lots of muddy racers this weekend as well doing the big spillway splash of runners and adventure racers going on in the Norco area. Check the details on these events below. Good luck to all you triathletes doing the Caney Triathlon in the Minden area this weekend as well.
Also, good luck to triathletes doing the upcoming Lake Placid Ironman event in New York.
Sept. 26, Sunday, has been set for the Crescent City Cyclists Crescent City
Century 2004 (formerly known as the "Tammany Trace 100"), to be held on
Sunday. It's a great touring ride for sure, but for all your Ironman
training multisporters, the ride might be a good calendar item for many you
out there also.
Don't forget, you can check old versions of this enewsletter at multisportreport.com. If some feel I am cluttering enews group mail boxes out there, I will gladly refrain from these enotes. I'm just doing my version of keeping mutlisporters informed. No harm or clutter intended.

Baton Rouge's Race for the Cure 5km is looking at the last weekend in February of 2005 for its event in the capital city. Any big-time events going on that may be conflicting? Just curious. It's time to start looking at 2005 dates for everyone.
Northshore resident and multisporter Chriss Cazayoux aka Robert Earl was
interviewed by OLN during the broadcast of the Tour de France. Ain't it a
small world!

Billy Preau reported earlier this week that the August edition of Triathlete
Magazine had an article on Louisiana's northshore multisport Team Earthquake
and the help the club has offered Donnie Jarrell. Jarrell, or Donzaroo as he
is affectionately called on the northshore, is fighting ALS or Lou Gehrig's
disease. Preau called the article a wonderful story about a wonderful guy."
Attached is a copy of the article for those unsubscribers of Triathlete
Magazine.

Congrats to Louisiana athlete John Thompson well representing not only Bayou Country, but the whole country, at the ITU Long Distance World Championship held in Sater, Sweden on July 3rd.
Just qualifying is quite an accomplishment in itself, but “Lil John” -- as he's affectionately called, did very well, completing the frigid 2.5-mile swim, 74.4-mile bike and 18.6-mile run with a time of 7:09:07; which placed him 13th in the tough 25-29 Age Group (second American in age group).
Despite cold and windy conditions, as well as a tough bike course (see course elevation: http://www.sater-triathlon.com/PDF/profile_bike_ag.pdf ), he finished with a bike spilt average of nearly 21 mph, and then held a 7:30 pace on the run.

Ride for the Roses
Oct.15 - 17, 2004
Oct.15 - 17, 2004
Austin, TX
Ride for the Roses Weekend is among the most popular and significant events in the world of cycling. Last year, the event raised more than $4.5 million for the LAF's cancer survivorship programs and grants. The 2004 Ride Weekend is scheduled for Oct.15-17 in Austin, Texas.
Ride for the Roses Weekend serves as the LAF's major outreach and awareness effort and celebrates the fundraising efforts of the Peloton Project. The weekend is comprised of several events including the PowerBar Health & Sports Expo, the 5km Run for the Roses and the 6- to 100-mile Ride for the Roses. Participation in the 2004 Ride for the Roses requires registration in the Peloton Project and a minimum fundraising level or donation of $100. Cyclists, runners, cancer survivors and volunteers raise funds and awareness for the LAF in their own communities. The initial Peloton registration donation of $50 counts toward the $100 minimum for participation in the Ride for the Roses. (taken directly from www.laf.org)
2nd Annual Tour de Donzaroo Set Sept. 5 in Mandeville

Bill Keller Dies, But His Commitment to La. Cycling Continues
From Louis Leonard "Salty" Galvis
saltyg@...
I am sorry to report that Louisiana cyclists have lost a tireless
champion and advocate and an all-round good guy. Long-time cycling advocate
Bill Keller died last week at his home on the lakefront in New Orleans.
As many of you are aware, Keller was a long-time New Orleans cycling
enthusiast and advocate. For those of you who are not aware of it, Keller
was instrumental in the development and construction of the Mississippi
River Trail and the Tammany Trace that so many of us New Orleans and
Northshore area cyclists enjoy daily. I first came to know Keller a few
years ago in connection with his efforts to advocate and lobby for better roads
and conditions for Louisiana cyclists, and he really impressed me with his
passion for cycling and for cyclists and with his years of cycling
experience.
Do keep Keller's family in your thoughts and prayers.
