Miles for Smiles bike tour is set for this weekend in the Felicianas and the Crawfishman Triathlon is set for Mandeville. In addition the Twin City Cyclists group is putting on a two-day bike race in Ouachita Parish. Attached is some information on a 5km run. There is a 5km run in Baton Rouge Saturday at the Pennington Bio Medical Center on Perkins Road near the velodrome.
The Louisiana Triathlon is in the books now and plans are already underway for the April 23, 2005 event. Thanks for all who raced and many thanks to all those who volunteered to make the race happen. Check out the results via lawired.com. If you have emailable photos you care to share, pass them along to me so I can post them on the Louisiana Triathlon web site.
My apologies for the confusion over the awarding of the grandmasters award in New Roads. Last year Laurence Cohen of New Orleans sponsored a grand masters award, but he did not do so this year for the Louisiana Triathlon. But old information was still circulating from last year's material and I neglected to clarify that there were no plans for a grand masters.
Nevertheless, there was information about a grand masters category and I hereby announce and award the grand masters award to Terry Kincaid of West Monroe. I do not plan to have a grand masters category next year.
By the way, the Louisiana Triathlon had many firsts this year, but none topped Paul Toup's finish line proposal to the lady who is now his fiancée (Kim's her name, but I don't remember her last name). Toups, who has done an incredible job of recovering from a snow ski accident that broke his neck, had a terrific race in his ongoing recovery, worked his butt off as a volunteer and then had a great engagement party after the race. Now, that's triathloning. (Of course few will ever top volunteer John Deshotel who comes out to the race site every year at 3 a.m., helps set up the transition area, then races and wins the event.)
Baton Rouge bike day is Friday, May 22 in the downtown area. For details

Plans are shaping up nicely for the June 13 Rapides Parish Indian Creek Triathlon. Bunches of us from South Louisiana are going out to the camp ground to make a grand weekend of the event. Check the details at indiancreektri.com.
The Championchip Scoring crew left some material at New Roads and is looking for someone who could get the material and haul the piping material to Shreveport. Call Mike Hutcheson at 214/437-1345.
By the way have you picked an event to help or volunteer this season? If you race once a month, you need to help (whole heartedly) in at least one event for the season. Tell a race director early that you want to help, find a task you want to do, learn all there is to know about doing the task and own it and take responsibility for it.

Trail of Tears 100 mile Mountain Bike Race
The fourth annual Trail of Tears 100 kicks off June 19 in Oklahoma City.
While some people think a race that covers seven cities, three counties,
three lake trail systems, and one tough little Canadian River is downright crazy, we
just call it the TOUGHEST MOUNTAINBIKE event in the Southwest. In fact it's
so tough.. "It Just Might Make You Cry". Complete details at

For Sale
From Susan McManus
2002 Bianchi Eros Donna, 46 cm, 700 wheels for $800.
It's in excellent condition -- one or two small scratches on paint, though I
don't think they are noticeable. It was bought new in January, 2003. It has
fewer than 700 miles on it. Aerobars added and included along with an
owner's manual; pedals are not included. I have temporary pedals on the
bike right now so it can be test ridden in tennis shoes if you want. I am
willing to meet at your LBS to have your pedals put on for a test ride.
I love this bike, but decided to get a tri-specific bike (blame it on my
love of gadgetry).
Retail was $1,100 and I paid $1,000.
