"I don't have to be what you want me to be." Muhammad Ali
The 11th Louisiana Triathlon is this Saturday, April 24, in New Roads. We've got a good and competitive field signed up, but our numbers are a little lower than the last two years. It's the first year we will have USAT officials on site and the first year to use Championchip scoring. The final point-to-point run should be interesting, too. There's still plenty of space to register. I hear Donnie Jarrell may come out to the race from the Northshore?
Tonight, Wednesday, we are having a Louisiana Triathlon appreciation dinner at the Dunaway Realty office. If you are a volunteer or want to be a volunteer, come at 7 p.m. to the Dunaway Realty office in Baton Rouge at 2325 Weymouth Drive; call 225/924-3619 for directions. Let me know via phone or email if you are coming so I can plan accordingly.
Speaking of Northshore folks, I am glad to hear that Salty Glavis is back home after a nasty bike spill that left in the hospital a few days with broken ribs, chest tube (been there, done that bad boy), and bruised ego. Get well Salty.
It's so inspiring to have a good race every now and then. My first multisport event of the year was Rusty Bex's state championship duathlon in Opelousas and I felt unusually good -- in fact competitive. Then I raced the 150-person Purple & Gold Triathlon and finished well there, too. There's nothing like getting your season off nicely.
Now I'm getting ready for the Indian Creek Triathlon. A bunch of us are camping out and do a great cook out of some sort. Let's all get together and try to camp in the same vicinity if you're out in Rapides Parish for Brad Colwell's race.
The week-day pack rides have started in Baton Rouge and we've got cyclists coming out of the wood work and lots more runners joining the jog after the 40-mile ride. Wow. I've never seen so much cycling and multisporting in the Baton Rouge area. I hear there are similar great turnouts for group training elsewhere across the state.
Anyone going to see Lance Armstrong and all the pro bike racers ride the Tour de Georgia starting in Macon this weekend? How was the Tour LeFleur in Mississippi last weekend. John Deshotel said the little triathlon at LSU-Eunice went very well.
A dear friend of mine in Lafayette said I offended some folks with my attempt at Cajun humor and blunt references to the UL-Lafayette name, among other verbal comments I made as master of ceremonies at the March 20 Race for the Cure 5km. I sincerely did not intend to offend and do hope folks at the race will accept my apologies if I offended them. I just have to stop talking on the microphone and pause much longer before talking. I'm definitely a work in progress. People keep asking me to be a race m.c. and I still manage to offend folks. Imagine that! How I hate that!
Don't forget there is the following events this weekend:
--Artbreak 5km in Shreveport
--Bubba Gump Shrimp Company 5km in New Orleans
--Sunrise Triathlon in Shreveport
Next week is the May 1 Miles for Smile Cycling Tour in the Felicianas, the Pennington BiMedical 5km in Baton Rouge, the West Ouachita Challenge Bike Race in northeast Louisiana.

Blood Donations Needed
From Mike Abshire
I need all you fitness folks out there to donate some blood for my daughter. I have a 20 year old daughter named Brandi. She was involved in a car accident early Thursday morning and was in ICU
until Tuesay. She was very seriously injured, including crushed femur and
ulna which required rods to be inserted, broken collarbone and scapula,
broken ribs, brain hemorrhage (which a catscan showed was ok). She punctured her lung, has bruised
kidneys and lacerations. She also lost six pints of blood and has no
insurance.

So to help offset some of the hospital cost I am asking all my
friends and family to donate blood to the national register for replacement
in the name of Brandi Abshire at the Lafayette General Hospital. I know with
all your busy schedules this is tough but it will sure be appreciated by her
and I.(all you riders and multisporters out there can have a free ride on my wheel the next
time I see you on the road) ha ha. Thanks in advance for the help
Please remember Brandi in your prayers as she recovers,

First Annual Tour de San Francisco in Louisiana Set May 16, 5km Run Set May 15
From Marc Breecher
On May 16th, we are going to have some cycling fun in St. John the Baptist Parish starting from the San Francisco Plantation on the River Road. This is the first time for folks at the plantation to put on an event like this, so if you are free on this day try to drop by and do the ride.
Also, there is a 5km run being held on May 15th in conjunction with the arts and crafts festival at the plantation.
++++++++++
That's it from here. Bless God America.
