There is still plenty of room available for those who want to race the April 24th Louisiana Triathlon at New Roads. There is race-day registration available, but be prepared for higher fees since it takes more effort and volunteers to accommodate race-day registrations. Check out lawired.com and click on the event icon for more for details. We've got lots of new twists and turns to this year's event and no doubt this will be a fine triathlon to get everyone going in the right direction for what appears to be one of the best state triathlon calendars in memory.
The LSU Purple & Gold Triathlon is set for this Saturday, April 17th, at 6
a.m. It's a great warm-up for the Louisiana Triathlon set Saturday, April 24
in New Roads. According to Stan Cadow, the LSU triathlon is being held for
the first time at the LSU Natatorium. It's a so-called sprint-distance race
starting with a 5km run, then biking (about) 20 miles)and finishing with a
deep-water 500-meter swim.
The race will start at what is called the Special Olympics Pool and ends as usual with a swim at the Nat (which is a first). Sign up today by going to:

Week-day pack riding on the River Road in Baton Rouge has been great for the few times I've been able to ride. I hear, too, that the New Orleans pack rides (aka, the Giro) have been faster than fast for the competitive riders on the roads. Pay attention out there, since lots of folks are just getting "reacquainted" with pack riding at this time of the year.
Directions Posted to BR Bicycle Club 100 Miler on Sunday
From Marc Breecher
All is set for the Sunday Baton Rouge Bicycle Club ride in the Feliciana area. There will be lots of "touring" riders out, but there's a share of competitive cyclists who will be out for a nice brisk ride as well.
To get to the staging area for the ride, -- from points south of Baton Rouge -- take I-10 to Baton Rouge and continue to I-110. The start of Interstate110 is really invisible, though it actually begins at the split where you want to continue in the first or second right-hand lanes to avoid going over the Mississippi River Bridge. Stay on
I-110 through the Governor's Mansion curve, go on pass the Baton Rouge airport and
continue to U.S. Highway 61 (which is where I-110 ends).
Veer to the right and take U.S. Highway 61 (which is actually Airline Highway) all the way to St. Francisville (about 25 miles). At the traffic light just after a "Welcome to St. Francisville" sign there is a McDonalds in the area ahead. Keep straight to the next traffic light which is the intersection Highway 10. Continue straight on U.S. Highway 61 for 1.5 miles and to a large Coke banner presenting "BRBC Century" with an arrow pointing to the right. There is a freshly paved black top road near the sign. Take that road back through the curve to the left and you will see the facility way back on your left. It's exactly one mile from the highway.

A British cyclist was jailed for 16 months after admitting to slashing almost 2,000 vehicle tyres in revenge for the actions of "inconsiderate" motorists.
Ashley Carpenter, 37, began his one-man campaign attacking tyres on 548 cars, vans and lorries with a sharpened screwdriver after one car almost knocked him off his bike and another splashed him with a puddle.
Judge Stephen Lennard, sentencing Carpenter at Bournemouth Crown Court in southern England, called the scale of the revenge spree, costing an estimated 250,000 pounds (375,000 euros, 460,000 pounds) in new tyres and other expenses to victims, "breathtaking".
"In December last year, motivated by frustration and anger at what you considered to be the inconsiderate manner of motorists as experienced by you as a cyclist and a pedestrian, you embarked on your astonishing and extraordinary campaign," Lennard said.
Unemployed Carpenter -- described by his own defence counsel as a "socially inadequate" loner -- had decided to "send out a message to motorists", the judge said.
"In a period of 10 to 11 days, armed with a sharpened screwdriver, probably sharpened for the purpose, you went out and punctured 1,728 separate tyres on 548 different motor vehicles" in Bournemouth and nearby Christchurch.
"The scale of the damage and the financial consequences of it are breathtaking."
