What a great weekend of running and racing last weekend and there's lots more to come as the racing season heats up literally and figuratively. The racing schedule is packed this weekend. There's velodrome racing, adventure racing, 5km events here and there, but there is not a triathlon as had been reported for LSU in Baton Rouge.
Keep your eyes tuned to lots of race calendars and tell all your web masters thanks for keeping their sites current and accurate. It's a task that many times goes unappreciated.
Lots of cyclists are already packing up for weekd-day rides as the days begin to lengthen just a bit. Be careful in those early season packs; there are some who have not been riding in groups through the winter.
Ben Hewett says the photographer from the DuDonnie Du race is selling pictures taken last weekend. The funds go to Donnie Jarrell in his fight with Lou Gehrig's disease. Check out www.EricSanders.net

Sex Offender Living Just Off Abita/St. Tammany Trace Fitness Trail
From <susanofthesea@...>
I thought I would pass this on to fitness folks using the Abita Springs/St.
Tammany Parish Trace Fitness Trail.
I live just off of the new extension of the Trace, which parallels Highway
36. This week in the mail I received an official Sex Offender Notification.
When I looked up the address where he's living, it's just off of the Trace,
and very near where I enter the Trace to head to Abita Springs.
The address is 72091 East First, Covington, LA 70434. He served three
years for sexual battery, and just got out of jail in January. You can find
his name and photo information at www.dps.state.la.us/lsp by searching in
zip code 70434. If you ride to that end of the Trace, you might want to
check it out. This may be no problem at all, but the flyer caught my
attention.

A grieving Mississippi runner is preparing for a grueling race. Few runners could - or would - spend their weekend running back-to-back marathons, but that's just a warm-up for Joey Lee, who is a native of Haughton, LA. The full article will be available on the Web for a limited time:

Pro Bike Racing on TV Set
From George Heagerty
Coverage of 2004 pro road racing cranked up last weekend
with Paris-Nice. The race will be shown live at 10:30-Noon on March 8-12, and on tape-delay at 5-6:30 p.m. on
March 13 and 14. In my opinion, OLN has a terrific spring and summer lineup of bike racing,
peaking with Lance Armstrong's attempt to win a sixth consecutive Tour de France in July.

Tour de Cashiers Ride Set in North Carolina

If anyone is planning on coming up to see the Tour of Georgia or Athens
Twilight bike race, my town is putting on a
great riding event the weekend before in Cashiers, North Carolina. On April
17, we are having a
2.5 mile-uphill time trial, and then on April 18 we have three ride
options:
a 50-mile ride with 5,000 foot of climbing,
a 75-mile ride with a 7,500 feet of climbing, and
a 100-mile ride option, with 10,500 feet of climbing.
The century travels through North Carolina, South Carolina, and Georgia. How
many centuries can claim that? The time trial was my idea this year as well as the 100-mile
ride option, so if anybody wants to come do it, let me know. Details are at
Tourdecashiers.com. Cashiers, N.C. is about two hours North of Atlanta.

John Cobb's Bicycle Sports Shop Moves
From Alan Moore
Bicycle Sports has moved (relax, though; it's still in northwest Louisiana) to its new location next to Orkin (next to
McDonald's) at the foot of the Shreveport-Barksdale Bridge. They operate at its usual hours. Also, a new bike shop has opened. Ian Webb has started Red River Cyclery on Youree Drive in Shreveport at the old House of Brass location. They're
supposed to open on March 8th.

Looking for Track Bike
I am looking to see if anybody out there has a track bike that they would be
willing to let my wife borrow for this weekends' track racing. She
normally rents one at the track where we used to raced, but rentals
aren't available in Baton Rouge. Anything in the 54-56cm neighborhood
should be sufficient for the time being. Wheels, rings/cogs, etc.
wouldn't be needed since I've got plenty of those parts.

Similarly, looking to see if anybody has a track bike that they are
wanting to sell in the 54-56cm range. Should have started planning this
sooner, but you know how that goes. We're located in east Mississippi, but will be in Baton Rouge this
weekend and at most of the area races.
