"If you're willing to examine failure and to look not just at your outward
physical performance, but your internal workings, too, losing can be
valuable." Lance Armstrong
As the first triathlon dates near, I'm getting a share of emails/calls about
how folks should prepare to do their first triathlon. Has anyone seen any
web sites/internet articles that could help folks prepare for their first
triathlon? I'd love to include a link on the Louisiana Triathlon web site
(via lawired.com). I am just amazed and impressed at the number of new folks
trying out triathlons.
On-line registration for the March 6 Race for the Cure 5km is up and running
via rftcbr.org or directly to active.com. Remember, race-day registrants
will not be scored and only the first 60 minutes of racing will be scored at
the event set for to start at the Old Governor's Mansion in downtown Baton
Rouge.
Valentine's Day is set for the LaMBRA two-person cycling time trial. The
points accumulation process for competitive cyclists is on!
Check out running's greatest philosopher George Sheehan at
georgesheehan.com. If you've never heard of this guy who wrote for decades
in Runner's World, you definitely need to know him. Whether you agree with
what he writes, his thoughts will make you think.

Chuck George of the New Orleans Track Club says the Mardi Gras Marathon may be the biggest 26.2-mile event seen in the Crescent City. He says the marathon is now listed as one of the top marathon destination events in the world. Ben Cherbonnier and Vince Trinidad are working hard too on the Baton Rouge Mardi Gras Mambo 10km set for the Saturday before Fat Tuesday. Stay tuned for details or check the details out at lawired.com/csr.htm.

There have been a number of awesome weekend ride/run workouts. I've been riding with the Coffee Call (I guess it's I-Hop now?) group which starts from College Drive near I-10 out of Baton Rouge and we've had some nice packs show up to make a good workout. It's been inspiring to see so many riders up and down the River Road in Baton Rouge this time of the dead winter and I've heard lots of folks are regularly riding in groups all over the state.
