Kenny Dunaway's Multisport Report

Dec. 12, 2003
"Work like it all depends on you, but pray like it all depends on God."
Joe White's dad

www.lakearearunners.com.

Baton Rouge
Club South Runners Half-Assed Half Marathon at BR Beach on Stanford Avenue
near LSU Campus. Fee is only $5.

Did everyone check out Runners/Triathlete magazine's published year-end USAT regional
rankings? Any surprises out there?

I could use some help identifying someone for printed edition of Louisiana
Multisport Report.
We're trying to track down a 25-29-year-old James
LaFleur, whom we have listed as being from Opelousas. But we got a report
from John Pohorelsky that LaFleur might be from Lake Charles. Can anyone out
there help us out on this one?

As I mentioned last week, I continue to look for nominations for the
Louisiana multisporter of the year (not just triathletes or duathletes --
but those involved in the whole competitive fitness arena). I got some good
nominations, but sure would like to hear from some more folks out there.

I need folks to send at least 35 words -- and I welcome more -- about why a
person (who must be a Louisiana resident) should be named this year's
multisporter of the year. I am hoping to publish this information in the
annual printed edition of the Louisiana Multisport Report. I'm not looking
for triathlete, duathlete, cyclist, runner, swimmer, roller blader,
adventure racer, etc. of the year -- I am looking for the all-around best
multisporter of the year! Let me hear from you.

Also, if you have photos you care to share for this year's printed edition,
I need them ASAP. Please email them to
T2DesignsLA@... and copy me
pretty please. For you advertisers, the space reservation deadline is fast
approaching, so I hope you folks are finishing up your ads for the upcoming
printed publication.

Keep those 2004 fitness dates coming in for the magazine, too.

By the way, on-line registration via active.com is set and ready for the
April 24, 2004 Louisiana Triathlon at New Roads. Take advantage of low,
early-season entry fees by registering now.

Women's Marathon Winner Turns Out to be a Man
A Bolivian runner who finished third in the women's half-marathon in the
central Andes region of Meseta del Bombon turned out to be a man, the
Peruvian sports institute confirmed.

Sandra Cortes Tancara crossed the line in the 13-mile race in 1hour 36minutes and
3seconds, finishing third overall behind the winner who clocked 1:33.42, but
was later disqualified for "sexual identification problems."

Peruvian sports official Carlos Julca told AFP that Cortes Tancara, who is a
regular competitor in distance races in Peru, should have undergone a
medical examination "but she left and we never saw her again."

Peruvian athletics federation official Moises Marapi said that Cortes
Tancara had represented Bolivia as a woman in the Barcelona Olympics in
1992, but was forced to return home after refusing to undergo a test to
prove her gender.

"At that time she was hermaphrodite," explained Marapi. "But later she had
an operation and became a total woman."
