I am looking for nominations for the Louisiana multisporter of the year. I
need folks to send at least 35 words -- and I welcome more -- about why a
person (who must be a Louisiana resident) should be named this year's
multisporter of the year. I am hoping to publish this information in the
annual printed edition of the Louisiana Multisport Report. I'm not looking
for triathlete, duathlete, cyclist, runner, swimmer, roller blader,
adventure racer, etc. of the year -- I am looking for the all-around best
multisporter of the year! Let me hear from you.
Also, if you have photos you care to share for this year's printed edition,
I need them ASAP. Please email them to T2DesignsLA@... and copy me pretty
please. For you advertisers, the space reservation deadline is fast approaching, so I hope you folks are finishing up your ads for the upcoming printed publication.
I continue to compile dates for the 2004 calendar, so keep those dates
coming. Check out the attachment.
Brooks Andrew Branham <babranha@...> reports that the Ruston off-road
bike race held a couple of weeks ago has posted results at www.tmbra.org.
By the way, my "Irish" twin brother John Dunaway has started working out at the Baton Rouge YMCA and many have stared at him sure that it was I who they were seeing (some say we look lots alike). He wants to alert you fitness folks who see him not to be offended if he doesn't greet you. He is sure many of you are mistaking him for me. He promises that he is not intending to be rude or unsociable. Factis, he may not have a clue as to who you are. Let's be nice to one another out there.

Lafayette Thanksgiving Day Run Set

Half Ironman Race in Lake Charles Considered for 2005
From Barry Laningham
Here is just a note to let y'all know about the progress on the future of
the Gatorman Triathlon. In 2004, we will hold what will be the last Gatorman as
we have known for the past11 years. Next year with the National Sprint Championship will be the last
sprint race, after that I am actively pursuing to change it to Louisiana's
only half-Ironman distance. This could draw in more nationally and
internationally.
The date for 2005 would remain the same to take advantage of the
ideal weather we usually enjoy the last weekend of September. The 2005 race
will be held on the Saturday instead of Sunday with awards and dinner that evening. So far, the Lake
Charles Police are supportive of the new half-Ironman format, but are
concerned about some details at this early date. So that will have to be
checked out more. Lake Charles officials should be supportive as well
since those coming in from out of town will probably be spending two nights
instead of one. This will require more volunteers and money and help from
the civic clubs, groups, schools from areas like Iowa (not the state) which
would affected by the bike course.
By far the majority of the bike course is on very good
roads and also with three bridge climbs. With the three longer distances,
relay teams comprised from the local swim teams, bike, and running clubs
should take better advantage as I am also committed to holding down the entry fees
that tend to hurt the relay teams. I am considering limiting the entries to
600 the first year to test it out, then probably increase it the next year.
As things develop more I will keep y'all informed.
GNO/Northshore Folks Planning for Homochitto Off-Road Race in Mississippi
From Steve Sperrier
Okay, here are some more details for Homochitto Hammer race. Clan Salvetti
and I will depart Mandeville Friday morning, Nov. 28. We plan to get as many individual
campsites for Friday and Saturday night as we need/can get. There should be
ample space for folks that do not have tents. (The campsites are available
on a first-come-first serve).
On Saturday, I have reserved the picnic pavilion, which is the one by the
lake and the amphitheater. I could not get it for Sunday as this is the same
pavilion that the race will be staged from. I am told there is a power
outlet there. (I am sure we will have some of Mark's eclectic tunes...) I
know there is a barbecue pit there.... So the plan is to hang out there
during the day Saturday and perhaps take some rides and consume a few adult
beverages. (For those that have not been there, this pavilion is right near
the "lake" and has a short trail around it that the kids have fun riding
on....)
The race is Sunday with barbecue being served after the race. Entry is a
paltry $20-30 depending on how you enter, quite a contrast to $416 for IMF!
If anybody wants to commit I will try to get you a camp site... heck, I can
even offer limited bike and rider transportation to and from if you need
it...
Turkey Trotters 5km Race Set for Mandeville
The Turkey Trotters race starts at the Mandeville Trace Trailhead in St.
Tammany Parish. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Pre Registration by Nov. 21
and entries are $8 for kids 15 and under, $12 for adults. Race-day costs
are $10 for kids and $15 for adults. We offer a family rate (four or more)
for $40. Checks should be made payable to Silent Angels. Pre-registration
and checks can be mailed to:

Cyclists/Non-Racers Reminded of Road Running Events in Greater New Orleans Area
From Chuck George
The New Orleans Track Club has a number of upcoming races scheduled for the Mississippi River Trace pathway. This e-mail is to request the cooperation in regards to safety for both runners and race participants during these upcoming events.
We all know that 99.9 percent of all runners and cyclists "share" the road. However, past races held on the above race course have created a situation that needs to be addressed in regards to safety. The race producer (New Orleans Track Club) requests your assistance in notifying all cyclists that these three events will be held on the Mississippi River Trace pathway with each placing hundreds of runners and walkers on the path during a certain time period. The large number of runners and walkers may pose a safety concern problem between high speed cyclists moving through the groups of runners and walkers.
In such, we request consideration and cooperation during the following events and time periods.
Nov. 23, 2003:
Ole Man River Half-Marathon
