I hope all of you eligible voters are registered and set to vote in the Oct. 4 Louisiana elections. We've already seen how important our role is in city, parish, and state government as it pertains to when, where, and how we run, bike, swim, roller blade, sail, or whatever! Take your citizenship seriously and vote. It does make a difference.
Bike race organizer and competitor Jon Anderson is moving to Minnesota in October. The St. Francisville resident and his wife Jackie have been pivotal in putting together lots and lots of bike racing in Louisiana and maybe even in Mississippi. When no one else would stage an event, the Andersons would do so. They were tireless workers for the sport. He really revived competitive cycling in the region by putting on so many, many fine events that drew cyclists from all over the country. Until the Andersons began staging races in the early 1990s, Louisiana bike races had narrowed to maybe a couple events a year and were hardly the events so many bike races are today. He also was instrumental in helping get the LAMBRA going and bring so many more cyclists into competitive cycling events. The Anderson's move to Minnesota is a tremendous loss for the competitive cycling community of the region. He was a great bike racer and even did a few running events and triathlons.
I hear that the first Meat Pie Triathlon in Natchitoches was very well done with about 200 or so participants involved in conjunction with the Meat Pie Festival. If you haven't visited Natchitoches, you need to check it out next year when the next Meat Pie Triathlon happens. I hear triathlete-turned-adventure racer Laurence Cohen showed up to race all the way from New Orleans? The results are posted on lafayettefitness.org. Congratulations to new race director Elizabeth Cassno for her staging her first multisport event.
The PelicanMan Duathlon once again keeps on keeping on, bringing in the regulars and the ever-increasing new comers to the sport. Way to go Chalmette Track Club and company! The folks in St. Bernard Parish have been one of the most reliable bunches putting on fitness events for at least a couple of decades now. I think I read somewhere that the Du LaPlace run-bike-run contest is once again set for St. John the Baptist Parish. I think Rick Elmore is putting that event together. Stay tuned.
Race directors, it's time to get your 2004 calendars out and set some fitness event dates. I'm organizing the next printed edition of the Louisiana Multisport Report and I need dates.
Oct. 18 is the Thibodaux Race for the Cure 5km, set for a 9 a.m. start.
Multisport folks might be interested in this review. It also gives a lot of info about saddle design and selection.
Shreveport Holds Race for the Cure 5km
From Alan Moore <amoore@...>
Shreveport's Race for the Cure was last Saturday and all reports are a good time was had by all. We had a group of over 40 participants from our advertising club alone that were there. Bossier City resident Chuck Owen said he had heard of the race series, but never run one until this year. Since cancer invaded his family, finding a cure for any of the cancers is of interest to him. He said the Komen Foundation does a good job of heightening our understanding of breast cancer and appreciating that we can have a part in providing a cure.

Louisiana Editor Named for Triathlon Magazine
From Rob Walters, TransitionTimes.com Triathlon Magazine.
Chuck Grose based in Baton Rouge has been named the Louisianan enews editor for nationally produced Triathlon Times. For those of you who don’t know, TT is a free web based triathlon magazine at www.transitiontimes.com since 1996.
I wanted to thank everyone for the great response to my last email. It was so overwhelming that we ran out of TT stickers and goodies half way through. No fear, a new order has been placed and we will get them out as soon as they arrive. A couple of new things we would like to tell you about:
1 -- Get a free club website. If your club needs a website to pass on information to members please let us know. We can set you up with your own club website for free with a web based admin section. You can post all your club news and race schedule.
Or if you just want a special version of TT for your members to accompany your team website please let us know.
Just email us your club name and we will have it set up in a day for you.
2 -- We are looking for local editors for several states. Please let your team members know.
It is a position you or any of your team members can do on the side with just a couple of hours a week. Local editors post local news and race schedules. It is a great way to get more involved in the sport for fun or profit. Plus it is a great way to advertise your club in your area.
We are looking for local editors for the following states:
Nevada, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, Arkansas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, South Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, West Virginia, Maryland, Vermont, Maine, and Puerto Rico.
3 - Lastly please tell your members about our site. It is free and we have over 25 local editions now and growing.

2003 Tour de' Tangipahoa Termed "Great Success"
From Marc Breech
Even with an early kick-off time for LSU and Georgia football game last week, the Tour still had 150 riders on the road with what I would guess about 80 percent taking on the 62-mile route.
Once again, the Hammond Kiwanis Club produced a very enjoyable event. All rest stations, with normal food and drink items, had a Port-o-let and iced towels to relieve and refresh riders. The post ride meal was really good and the massage was even better. Nothing like receiving a massage on those tired legs.
