Well the multisport racing season is in full swing with lots of triathlons, duathlons, bike races and running races going on everywhere all the time. To top it off, there's lots on the tube to keep weekend race warriors motivated from triathlon telecasts to daily racing shows on famous events like the cycling Tour of Italy! If you ain't motivated now, you can't be motivated. I don't have the cable station that telecasts the Giro d'Italia, but I was out of town and got to see a couple of reports and what a sight it was. Maybe I'll break down subscribe to the station by the time the Tour de France begins when Americans whip the French again! (By the way I'm not ashamed of my French heritage; I just appreciate more why my ancestors left the land after reading my World War II history and watch the Middle Eastern history unfold.)
While my individual running is disappointing, I must say that I'm looking forward to the local mid-week two milers starting up on June 4 in the capital city. I know other areas have these mid-week runs and these are great avenues to keep your speed work honest during the hot summer days.
Swimming pools are busy everywhere I travel across Louisiana. No doubt the worst one is at Louisiana Tech where the old people and water walkers keep the temperature in that tremendous facility at a toasty 80 degrees (perhaps I exaggerate, but suffice it to say that the temperature is dangerously hot for distance swimmers).
It was great watching and helping at the Anthony Nolan Stage race last weekend. There were some gifted athletes racing in the capital city, but most impressive to me was masters racer Eddie Corchoran of Kenner. He was among the top masters finishers in the three-stage event after having done the half IronMan Gulf Coast Triathlon in Florida the weekend before. What a multisporter!
