"Everybody is ignorant, only on different subjects." Will Rogers
I'm collecting dates for the 2006 racing and fitness calendar for the
printed edition of the Louisiana Multisport Report. So far, I don't
have lots of dates set yet. If you or a race director you know has
dates set for 2006, I sure would like to include them in the
calendar published at the
first of the year. Let me hear from you.
Also, as in previous years, if you have someone you want to nominate
for multisporter of the year, email me with your candidate and write
why you believe that person should be considered for Louisiana's
multisporter of the year. Send me your names and their backgrounds.
I'm also looking for Louisiana nominees for best multisport and/or
running club web site nominees. Share why you believe one fitness
web site in Louisiana is better than others.
In the November/December issue of USA Triathlon Times, Team
Earthquake is listed as the Division II winner of the USA Triathlon
Club National Championship.
Congratulations to those who put on and participated in last
weekend's adventure race in the Baton Rouge area. There was a sparse
crowd at the duathlon put on by LSU last weekend, but the event
brought out quality racers who turned in some fast times.
Three great fitness-related articles in the Times-Picayune newspaper
to check out.

It's time for lots of Turkey Trot type running events at various
towns and cities across the state. Check out your local running club
web sites to get the details. I know there's one in Baton Rouge held
Thanksgiving day and traditionally there is one in Shreveport put on
by Sportspectrum I think. No doubt there are others.
Wow, how nice to have to put on some gloves for a change, though I
don't especially like cold toes that plague me on bike rides this
time of year. Get that warm weather out and learn how to layer your
clothes for your workouts; it's no doubt an art!
Randy Legeai reports that the 35th annual Tour de Louisiane Stage
Race has been tentatively scheduled for June 24-25, 2006 in Abita

<<Mardi Gras Marathon 1st Run Event in New Orleans Since Hurricanes>>
From Bill Burke
On Feb. 5, 2006 the City of New Orleans will begin anew with the
running of the 41st annual Mardi Gras Marathon. The 2006 Mardi Gras
Marathon will be the first event of any type held in the city since
Hurricane Katrina rolled ashore just east of downtown New Orleans on
August 29, 2005.
The running of this marathon will be a start, a beginning, a
statement to the country and the world that New Orleans and its
people, its culture and its tourism industry are coming
back. "Coming Back to the Big Easy"!
Starting and finishing from the Louisiana Superdome, the 41st annual
Mardi Gras Marathon will take runners and walkers on a virtual tour
of the city that care forgot. Athletes will run through the French
Quarter, City Park, Uptown New Orleans and Audubon Park on their way
to the finish near the Louisiana Superdome. Along the way runners
and walkers will reach each mile signified by a high water mark to
illustrate the depth of flood waters at that location during the
Katrina flooding. Following your city tour, our 2006 post event
party will kick into high gear complete with food, refreshments and
live New Orleans entertainment to top off the afternoon.
If you can't join us for the official rebirth of New Orleans on Feb.
5th, then you can still assist us in our fund raising efforts by
going to www.mardigrasmarathon.com and check out our fund raising
web page set up through active giving. This program through
active.com will allow you the fitness runner or walker to donate
funds to local hurricane relief efforts in New Orleans with just the
click of a button. Anyone donating $50 or more to our cause will
receive by return mail a special long sleeve "Back to the Big Easy"
t-shirt and a big thank you from the Mardi Gras Marathon and the
city of New Orleans.

accommodations please go to www.mardigrasmarathon.com. Or contact me

<<Florida Distance Running Event Set for March 5 in Seaside>>
From Norm Boldin, Seaside Runner
seasiderunning@...
I wanted to let your running club know that the 4th annual Seaside
Half Marathon will be held on Sunday, March 5, 2006, in Seaside,
FL.
Last year's race brought more than 1,600 runners, and we expect even
more athletes to compete in this year's Half Marathon. We have been
busy getting the word out, and I assure you that the race (and the
events surrounding it) will be memorable. One hundred percent of
race proceeds are donated to the Seaside Neighborhood School, a
public charter middle school located in the town of Seaside.
The town of Seaside, described as America's Classic Beach Town, is
situated on Florida's Panhandle between Panama City Beach and
Destin, directly overlooking the emerald-green waters of the Gulf of
Mexico. An award-winning community, Seaside is one of Florida's
premier holiday destinations. To learn more about Seaside, visit
www.seasidefl.com.
We hope to get race information out as soon as possible. Check our
website at www.seasidehalfmarathon.com, which has more detailed
information / registration forms, or register online at
www.active.com.
We hope to see some of your members on March 5th at the race!
