Word is there is an "unofficial" beer run -- an actual run -- being
organized in Baton Rouge by the BRTri group. Check out the attached
flyer on the Cajun Cup 10km race set for Lafayette.
If you or race directors you know have set 2006 event dates, please
pass them along as others make their plans for 2006.

<<Feb. 5 Mardi Gras Marathon Includes Hurricane Fundraiser>>
From Bill Burke
In a move to assist with the rebuilding of New Orleans, the 41st
running of the Mardi Gras Marathon and Half Marathon will donate all
net proceeds to a special Hurricane Katrina Fund called "Back to the
Big Easy". This fund will give all net proceeds from the Mardi Gras
Marathon, Half Marathon and 5km to local charities based in the city
to help with the Big Easy recovery efforts.
This year's event scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 5, 2006 will be the
first major sporting event back in New Orleans since Hurricane
Katrina brought the Crescent City to its knees on that dark Monday
morning in August. How can you help? By registering to run or walk
in the 2006 Mardi Gras Marathon, Half Marathon or 5km, you will be
giving to those who now have so little.
Each participant will receive a long sleeve 2006 Mardi Gras
Marathon -"Back to the Big Easy" T-shirt and our commemorative Back
to the Big Easy Finisher's Medal. Whether you participate or not,
each individual that contributes $50 to our "Back to the Big Easy
Fund" will receive by mail our special "2006 Back to the Big Easy"
long sleeve commemorative T-shirt and a big thank you from the
Crescent City.
<<Update on Donated Bikes for Hurricane Relief>>
From Philip Baker
Thanks to so many for helping out in Baton Rouge with repairs on
donated bikes for the hurricane relief. We now have 100 or so
children's bike to prepare for distribution and 479 (not 1,000 as
hoped)coming to town so there will be lots of repair nights left to
help out.
From Bruce Wickert
The second distribution of donated bikes for the hurricane relief is
complete. The pace was more relaxed as we distributed bikes from the
second floor of the Seymour Gym on the Southern University campus in
Baton Rouge. We were entertained by the Jaguar and Arkansas State at
Pine Bluff volleyball game, while we distributed 21 of the target 25
bikes.

still looking for some "training" wheels to buy, was listed as an
