"Luck is the intersection of preparation and hard work." Steve Ripple
I understand a 100 or so Louisiana IronMan triathletes are headed to
Florida for the ultra-distance event in central Florida. Best of
luck to you all.
Congrats to BRTri for winning the state championship title for clubs
at the Meat Pie Tri in Natchitoches. Congrats too for all those who
braved the chilly Cane River waters for the race that started off in
true time-trial fashion. Reports have been very positive on a race
that was scheduled, rescheduled, and then scheduled again. Surely it
will be a more manageable date in 2006?
With the running of such big marathon events like the Marine Corps
Marathon and now with the running of the New York Marathon this
weekend, the cool-weather marathon season is in full swing with lots
of Louisiana runners participating at events around the world.

<<New Orleans' City Park Desperate for Volunteers>>
With a 94 percent reduction in its staff, New Orleans City Park
officials say they are in desperate need of volunteers to come help
clean up the park where many runs, bike races and fitness events are
held every year.
Anyone interested in volunteering can go to the front entrance of
City Park by the Museum of Art in New Orleans, said John Hopper,
director of development for New Orleans City Park.
"Because 90 percent of the park was flooded, we lost all of our
equipment and supplies so if you're going to come volunteer, bring
your own equipment," Hopper said. "Bring rakes, trash bags,
anything you have to help clean up a lot of these limbs and
branches."
<<Piney Hills Classic Off-Road Racing Report>>
From Michael Fontana
Louisiana multisporters didn't fair as well as in years past at the
Piney Hills Classic off-road events held in Ruston recently.
Baton Rougean Darius Sampey and I came to the finish line together
in 8th and 9th places, respectively. We both averaged about 6:10
pace on the first run. I managed about 1.5 minutes faster on the
bike, but Sampey ran me down.
Amazingly, sub-50 min bike splits was almost the norm for the top 10
finishers. There were actually two guys finishing under 46 minutes.
One of those splits belonged to the winner, a 17 year old. He was 8
minutes ahead of me. I predict him to be the next Lance Armstrong.
Both first and second place overall were juniors.
