Kenny Dunaway's Multisport Report

Oct. 20, 2005

"Do what you can, with what you have, where you are." Theodore
Roosevelt

Chuck George of the New Orleans Track Club reminds everyone of the
Oct. 22 Run, Walk and Remember event.

Congrats to all those from Louisiana who did the Hawaii IronMan
Triathlon and those who went across the Pacific to cheer folks on in
the effort. Here -- I think -- are all the Louisiana finishers;
10:02:59 Kenworthy, Andrew of New Orleans
11:32:44 Martinez, Maria of New Orleans
11:50:39 LeJeune, Brian of Baton Rouge
11:53:52 Lee, Mike of Baton Rouge

Ruston is set for the Piney Hills Classic off-road duathlon and
mountain bike races this weekend. Also, this Sunday Oct. 23 is the
fourth annual University of Louisiana Triathlon set in Lafayette.
It's a 200-yard pool swim, a 10-mile bike ride, and a 2-mile run

Aimée Shuey passed along an email report of a duathlon in St. Tammany
Parish this weekend in Grand Hill Estates in the community of Bush,
LA. Paul Bodet is putting one on this Sunday at 8 a.m. and it's being
called the Dome to Dome Duathlon featuring a 2-mile run, an 8.5-mile
bike, and a final 2-mile run. Bring your own refreshments, snacks and
awards! Directions: Take Louisiana Highway 21 from Covington toward
Bogalusa. Go about 10 miles from downtown Covington, then turn left
into Grande Hills and take the first left. Call Bodet at 985.249.9060
or 504.957.7254.

Check out the new 2006 Louisiana Triathlon logo on the web. It was
designed by Kevin Thibodeaux and energizes me to start picking up the
organizational pace for the April 22nd event in New Roads. Go to
lawired.com and click on the 2005 event icon.

IronMan Lake Placid 2005 will be aired on OLN's cable network on
Sunday, Oct.23 at 2 p.m.

<<Baton Rouge Rolls With Bikes Donated by Colorado Bike Group>>
From Phillip Baker

I am looking for a few bike repair volunteers to help on nearly 300
bikes donated to help hurricane victims. I don't think there are
major repair issues, and it's a great time to fine-tune your bike
mechanic skills. We'll be meeting during the day in north Baton Rouge
at the Howell Park Recreation Center at Winbourne Avenue and Elm
Drive, which is east of Foster Drive and Winbourne. Bring bike stands
and whatever tools you have to help. We started today, but we'll be
working for several days on the project. Come help out. Call me for
more information at 225.343.8416

<<San Diego is Start for Ride to Reunite Gulf Coast>>
From Ryan Yee and Daniel Ramsey
danella02@...
Join the team to continue help reuniting folks whose lives were
disrupted by hurricanes Rita and Katrina! Help bring awareness and
aid to recent Gulf Coast hurricanes victims by, supporting the Ride
To Reunite. Our vision is to utilize the sport of cycling to
demonstrate a commitment to social responsibility and concern.

We are uniting the cycling world in an effort to raise worldwide
awareness, relief, and funds for the victims of the recent Gulf Coast
hurricanes. The Ride to Reunite specifically focuses attention on the
critical need to reunite children and their families who were
affected by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita. To quickly raise awareness
we have joined forces with an established charity. Save the Children,
is the leading U.S. and world-wide independent organization creating
lasting change for children in need.

Through its Gulf Coast Recovery Fund For Children all money generated
will be put to immediate use. All donations will be a 100 percent tax
deduction. Our goal is to raise $100,000 for the hurricane victims.
As cyclists we know it takes a team to achieve, and this couldn't be
truer now. Help us raise awareness by joining the group of already
committed cyclists for a segment of the ride or sponsoring a rider.
Other ways you can contribute are by donating products that can be
used in our raffle to generate money for the charities.

Ride Info: We will be departing with a sponsor and media kickoff
celebration in San Diego at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22nd, from the San
Diego Velodrome and complete the Ride To Reunite at 3 p.m. Sunday
Oct. 30th in New Orleans.

Our team will include 8-10 top professional cyclists committed to
riding from San Diego to New Orleans. Alongside the pros will be an
equally committed group of hundreds of cyclists prepared to ride
segments of the journey. Ride logistics have been planned for those
riders going the distance including navigators, mechanics, a team
chef, mobile support, and traveling caravan.

Media coverage will be utilized in the eight major U.S. cities in
route from San Diego to New Orleans (San Diego - Phoenix - Tucson -
El Paso - San Antonio, - Houston - Baton Rouge - New Orleans).

No matter what is in our future as cyclists we are committed to causes
outside ourselves. Now our focus is on the young victims and their
families affected by recent hurricanes. As cyclists we use intense
efforts to succeed, and it will take an intense effort of social
responsibility to win the battle against the Gulf Coast hurricane
disasters and the continuing long term effects.

For more info on how to join us please send an email to
info@... or visit www.RideToReunite.com to make
donations.

<<ALS Fund Raiser Set for BR>>
From Britt Drummond
Don't forget year's Walk to d'feet ALS. The money goes
to research in finding a cure for ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease). The
walk will start at the Argosy/Sheraton atrium on Oct. 29 at 9a.m.
Former LSU basketball coach Dale Brown will be the guest speaker and
food will be provided. Please make plans to attend. You will have
your choice of doing a 1.5 mile-walk or a 3-mile walk. I know this
will be challenging for you all, so I am putting you to the test. It
would mean a lot for us to have a good showing.

++++++++++

That's it from here. Bless God America.
