"As long as there is a lower class, I am in it. As long as there is a
criminal element, I'm of it. As long as there is a soul in prison, I
am not free."
Eugene Debs, U.S. presidential candidate 1912
Two major storms in one month makes for a tough time in our state.
Our thoughts and prayers are with those in the Abbeville and Lake
Charles areas. Hang in there. We definitely didn't need another
storm, much less desperate Saints and LSU football games. Somehow,
though, I just sense it's getting better in the Bayou State. I was
pedaling around the LSU lakes in the Baton Rouge area and saw the
first flight of teal I've seen and was reminded so vividly that the
seasons of life press on and so should we.
Don't forget the St. Theresa Trek two miler in Gonzales on Oct. 1. I
hope you can open the attached material. There are lots of runs
emerging in Baton Rouge and Lafayette since the storms, so make sure
to check out Club South Runners site via lawired.com and the
lafayettefitness.org site as well. The Ruston area is no doubt
getting ready for the big Piney Hills Classic at the end of October
for off-road bike racing and multisporting.

Off-Road Bike Race Set Oct. 15 in BR Area
From Kerry Stamey, 225.324.3499
The X-Trail Shoot Out off-road bike race will be held Saturday, Oct.
15th.Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with the first racer off by 9
a.m. The X-Trail Shoot Out is a no frills bragging rights time-trial
type race. Riders will be going about every two minutes.
It's a one-loop course that we estimate takes about 3.5 - 4.5 minutes
to complete. It's an all-out sprint on one of the tightest, most
twisty sections of the Comite River Park. It's $5 per run, with three
runs maximum. No prizes, or schwag, just a chance to prove who is
the fastest on a mountain bike! This is a BREC event hosted by
BRAMBA, the Baton Rouge Area Mountain Bike Association. Riders will
be going for the glory. So even if you don't race, come on out and
watch; this is a great race for spectators. For more info go to
www.bramba.org, www.BREC.org, or call me at 225.324.3499

<<Arkansas Bike Race Report by La. Rider>>
From Stan Prutz.
The Celebrity Classic was great two days of racing -- professionally
run by a national cycling event coordinator and well attended,
including pros from as far a New Zealand mixed together with Cat 1
and 2, Cat 4 had a choice of racing with Cat 3 or 5. It was set in a
great little historic town for a crit, well preserved, dating from
the early 1900 era. The weather cool with just a little rain.

have never run Miami before have registered for the fourth edition of
the race. Registration for 2006 has almost doubled compared to this
time last year and almost 400 have registered in the past week alone.
With registration picking up now during marathon season, we expect
that the half marathon will sell out early and the 2006 race will
include over 10,000 runners for the first time in the history of a
South Florida marathon. Registration fees increase after Sept.
30 for the full and half, as well as the 5km, so it's important that
you beat the rush and register now. Save money and save your place in
the fourth annual ING Miami Marathon and Half Marathon.
Marathon season has begun and thousands have already chosen Miami for
their winter destination race in January. As September comes to an
end, registration fees will increase as well. In order to save money
