Good luck to all the youngsters doing the Rocketkidz Triathlon in the
capital city and all those Louisiana triathletes going to the
Sandestin Triathlon (formerly known as the Elephant Walk Triathlon)
this weekend. There will be a bunch no doubt riding the Hotter 'n'
Hell 100 bike tour in Texas this weekend, too, in Wichita Falls.
I had several attachments included in a previous note I thought went
out on Wednesday, but I don't have indications it was delivered. Ben
Cherbonnier of Club South Runners sent notes on a half-marathon
training program going on via Varsity Sports in Baton Rouge and a
flyer on a run for the zoo in the capital city. There was also a note
on a swim meet sent from some Team Earthquake triathlon team members.
Sorry, but it appears attachments are getting harder to send in group
emails.
Congrats to all those who raced and directed summer-long club week-
day running events. This is a powerful service to the fitness
community, especially to younger runners preparing for high school
cross country seasons.
The link below offers an interesting article about why Oregon was the
only state that didn't have an increase in obesity in the last two
years.

The multisport rankings for Louisiana residents racing Louisiana
events are coming along fine for the next annual edition of the
printed Louisiana Multisport Report. If you're concerned about
whether you're accurately ranked, email me your story. The printed
copies are sent free, too, but you have to keep me updated with your
current address if you want one. Otherwise, I hope to again have lots
of copies out at fitness retailers and health clubs around the state.
Don't forget, this is a great opportunity to advertise for your event
sponsors or fitness retailers that have supported cycling, running,
multisporting and all our sports.
I am hoping to have rankings of adventure racers and off-road races
as well as competitive cyclists again. If anyone has data on
Louisiana competitive swimmers, that would be great to include in
this publication again. The issue is due out in early 2006.
A bunch of guys with the Herring Gas cycling team based in
Mississippi and Louisiana are mixing it up internationally with at
Tour de Guyane, held in a French-speaking nation in South America.
Randy Legeai and Taylor Ahrens having been keeping updates on the
internet. Stay tuned. Right now, Baine Foote from Monroe is sitting
in fifth place among an international field. Here is a link for more
information and a French-speaking newscast featuring a good old

Off-Road Duathlon Set
From Jeff Diamond
It's time for another off road duathlon in Baton Rouge. This time on
the super sweet singletrack of BREC's Comite River Park. If you
haven't ridden this course, you're really missing out on one of the
nicest pieces of trail in the state. Here's a link to the page of
event dates, past and future. All the info you need should be on
those pages. If you need anything else, e-mail us at the link
provided on those pages.

If you know of anyone else who would like to have this info, please
forward it to them for us. This is a grass roots effort by a
relatively small group of folks. We appreciate any help we can get!

Group Swim Workout Set for Those Racing in Destin
From Susan Boudreaux
For those going to the Sandestin Triathlon this weekend, there will
be a group swim Friday before the race at 11 a.m. at the beach in
front of the Hilton.
Friday afternoon, we will party on the beach till packet pick-up.
Meet us out there. Saturday after the race, we will meet around the
pool, as usual, then move out to the beach. Bring ice chests and
snacks.
Sunday, we are planning a 40 to 70-mile bike ride from the Sandestin
Hilton. We will probably leave around 6:30 a.m. or 7a.m., depending
on the size of everyone's hangover. Hope to see you there.
Sept. 10 Ride Set for Amite
From Bob Hodges
The Northshore Crescent City Cyclists ride for Sept 10 will start
from the town of Amite. This ride will feature longer distances than
typical to provide some more training miles for local riders that are
getting ready for the Six Gap Century, the CCC Fall Century, and the
MS Tour. There will be ride options of approximately 40, 50, 65, and
85 miles. At least 90 percent of the ride will be in rolling hills
and I have routed in what I believe are the best roads in the area.
There will be at least one store stop for the 40 and 50 mile-routes,
two for the 65-mile route, and three for the 85-mile route. If you
ride the long route, expect to do between 2,500 to 3,000 feet
of climbing. The ride will start at 7 a.m. from the park in downtown
Amite off of Louisiana Highway 16 adjacent to the railroad tracks.
Hope to see y'all there.
