Tour de Louisiane Bike Races
Covington, Hammond
New Orleans-based Catch 22 Track Club presents its Tuesday two-miler
running race series next Tuesday. The other two scheduled two milers
will be on June 28 and Aug. 23.
The Nokia-sponsored triathlons held this past weekend in New Orleans
posted results at http://www.girlpowertri.com/GPresults05.html
Last week I included a note from Don Attaway, whom doctor's have
given only a few weeks to live as he fights cancer. I incorrectly
indicated he was from Louisiana. In fact, he is from east Texas,
where he has been prominent as a race director and capable
multisport competitor.

<<Nokia Sugar Bowl Triathlon Had 3 Masters Winning Overall>>
From Wayne Stockton
Thought I'd write a quick note on Nokia Sugar Bowl Triathlon held
last weekend. This must be our lucky season. First, perfect weather
in New Roads. Next, perfect weather in Panama City. Now, perfect
late May weather for Nokia. It was glass-smooth water and there was
little wind on the bike. It was sunny but fair running weather. All
the conditions were right for us 40 and better. To say the masters
division in Louisiana is tough is an understatement. Even without
John Deshotels, the top three Louisiana finishers in this year's
Nokia race were over 40.
The first three overall were from Oklahoma, Florida and Alabama. The
next three were Laurence Cohen (48), Pen Clark (44), and Chuck
Farrell (51). This three-man struggle went down to the wire. Farrell
had an amazing swim, Clark had a sub-hour bike ride. Laurence said
he got lucky and picked off two of the South's best masters
triathletes, who had worn each other out after two-plus hours of
racing. It was like the tortoise and the hares. My hats off to race
director Billy Burke and his fantastic staff and volunteers.
<<Condolences to Race Director Bill Burke's Family>>
From Laurence Cohen
Nokia Sugar Bowl and Girl Power Triathlon race director Bill Burke
recently lost his dad. Like the pro he is, he did not let this
enormous personal tragedy interfere with our personal addiction as
he administered two fine events over the weekend. I know everyone
offers their sympathy and support to bill and his family.
