Kenny Dunaway's Multisport Report

May 11, 2005
"Treat your friends as you do your pictures and place them in their best
light."
Jennie Jerome Churchill

What a weekend of multisport activities:
Tunica-Biloxi Duathlon in Marksville
Tour de Donzaroo in St. Tammany Parish
Lincoln Parish Xterra in Ruston
Tour de Brandon in Mississippi.

There are lots of running events going on as well and no doubt I've neglected to miss some event somewhere deserving recognition. Check your local websites and never forget to show your appreciation for all these web masters managing these fitness web sites.

Congratulations to adventure race director Jeff Diamond on a fine job at the event held
in the Baton Rouge area over the weekend. He got some great coverage in the
Baton Rouge Advocate newspaper. Way to go.
Louisiana multisporters kicked butt at the half-Ironman-distance Gulf Coast Triathlon in Florida. Check the results of Louisiana finishers below.

There is talk of a marathon being organized in New Roads that will circle False River. Be on the lookout for dates. Club South Runners and BRTri is working on organizing a duathlon in the capital city area; stand by for details.

Cheryl Dugas reports that she came upon a service called Sports Express.
www.sportsexpress.com   They pick up and deliver your bicycle, golf clubs etc.

Here is the link to comprehensive details on the Crawfishman Triathlon. It

Natchitoches Set to Host Meat Pie Triathlon as Regional Club Championship
From Don & Elizabeth Cassano
The third annual Meat Pie Tri is set for Sunday, Sept. 25 in Natchitoches.
We have on-line registration live and kicking via
www.active.com (this will
be the only way to register this year). Registration opened last week and
participants are already signing up. The active website contains detailed
info; official race website to be announced soon.

To enhance race logistics, the tri and the Meat Pie Festival itself will not
be held on the same weekend this year. We are so pleased that the city of Natchitoches is 110 percent in
support of this event. Again this year, the event is host to a 2005 USA
Triathlon regional club championship race! Again this year there will be a
club contest. Last year's winners was the team dressed in orange and blue -- BRTri.
Folks from the capital city club are already making plans to defend their
title. Make 'em work for it -- get your club fired up, signed up and ready
for the challenge.

Chip-timing will be the source used to capture your efforts in 2005! There will be a NSU home football game on Saturday evening.
So, if you plan to stay downtown or at one of the historic B&Bs, make your reservations early since these rooms will fill quickly.

PR Plans from La. Moving to Heighten Info on ALS with Aid of  Lance Armstrong
From Sue Boudreaux
(Editor's Note: A band of faithful triathlon friends based in Mandeveille are trying to line up a meeting with Lance Armstrong to bring more national attention to the fight being waged to beat ALS or Lou Gehrig's Disease. Hopes are to include the visit with Oprah Winfrey to bring national attention to those fighting the war on ALS.)

Tonya Jarrell of Mandeville has been working through the Dream Foundation to
have Donnie Jarrel meet Lance Armstrong. Jarrell has been fighting ALS for
the past couple of years. If you would like to help efforts to honor
Jarrell, please consider sending  an e-mail  to the Oprah Winfrey show on
Wednesday, May18th.

If everyone who has been touched by Jarrell and his
heroic fight to overcome ALS, e-mail her on the same day and we figure she
would have to take notice to help us in  our efforts to have Lance and
Donnie meet. In your e-mail, you should give a brief explanation of how you
know Donnie, and how he has touched your life. It's  important that you are
brief, and the entire e-mail should be no longer than a few paragraphs. If
you can pass this information on to anyone else, we can really make a point
with the Oprah show. But remember, it's a secret-Donnie doesn't know!
