"The income tax has made more liars out of the American people than
golf has." Will Rogers
I had trouble posting this note today. If you got multiple emails of
this report, accept my apologies. I'm trying to get into the 21st
century.
The multisport season is well underway now, with several triathlons
in the history books and big competitive cycling events done. But
there's lots more to come, so stay in shape and keep watching those
web sites for emerging events.
Good luck to all those doing the Crawfishman Triathlon in St. Tammany
Parish and those doing the Sunrise Triathlon in Shreveport. Are the
state's running clubs gearing up for mid-week two mile events? Give
us some dates to post all you run race directors. Webmasters, have
you updated your fitness web sites lately?
As race director of the Louisiana Triathlon in New Roads, I was
pleased with the event and early reports are that the race went well.
Baton Rouge triathlete We again had folks from six state race and
lots of Louisiana from every corner of the state. Plans are already
in the works for another Louisiana Triathlon on Saturday, April 22,
2006.
Shreveporter Scott Langford, Atomic Racing, scored the race in Pointe
Coupée Parish with ChampionChips. Since early results were
emailed,
he has made some adjustments and updated Louisiana Triathlon results.
They have been corrected this link below has the update and should be
updated on the web site soon, if they indeed haven't already been. He
apologizes for entering for the several versions now circulating. The
adjusted result versions have been sent to USAT for national and
regional ranking purposes.

A Labor Day duathlon in Baton Rouge is being discussed by Club South
Runners and BRTri members, according to Baton Rouge runner Ben
Cherbonnier. Be on the look out for details of the September race.
Miles for Smiles is coming up Saturday, May 7 in the Felicianas.
Staging will be from the Heminbough antebellum home off U.S. Highway
61. It'll be a great training ride for lots preparing for Ironman-
distance events and even more cyclists adding mileage to their
training regimen. There are multiple ride distances to accommodate a
wide assortment of distances. Sign up via active.com.
Check out the very cool video made on the Holy Toledo Triathlon held
in early April. It's available for viewing via lafayettefitness.org.
Don't forget to be sending in your special, high-quality multisport
photos for consideration in the annual printed edition of the
Louisiana Multisport Report due out in early 2006. Keep those quality
photos coming. The more action, the better.
Cash Up for Grabs at May 14 Duathlon in Marksville
From: Brad Colwell <
bcolwell@...>
Plans are coming together for the first Tunica-Biloxi Duathlon set
for Marksville on Saturday, May 14. I met with key sponsors and they
gave us hard, cold cash as prizes to give away. So, Gary Perkins and
myself decided to award cash prizes to the top five male/female
finishers. As usual, we'll had out age group trappings also. Sponsors
are really going all out for this event, food, etc.
All proceeds from the race will go in support of Bestbuddies of
Louisiana, a fine organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of
individuals with mental retardation/intellectually disabilities.
Rooms at the Casino are $50 per night, just ask for the "Best
Buddies" rate. The rate will hold until the end of April.

Time Trial Series Starting in Shreveport Area
From Alan Moore
Here are some details on the Mike Simpson Time Trial Series starting
in Shreveport this
Wednesday, April 27, at 6:30 p.m.
-- This is not a sanctioned cycling event and there's no entry fee.
Riders go off in the order they sign in (we're no longer sorting the
riders out in order of slowest to fastest), so sign in at the parking
area. Parking is at the warehouse building at the intersection of
Highway 175 and Harts Island Road.
-- Riders go off at 30-second intervals. The start line is a short
distance south of the intersection. The course is 7.35 miles to match
the distance of the old course and is out-and-back. The finish line
is alongside the start line. You can warm up on Harts Island Road
north of the intersection.
-- The road is OPEN to traffic. Don't forget that. Repeat it to
yourself at least three times.
-- This is a new course and we must break it in properly. If
the old course ever gets resurfaced we'll return to it.
-- When you sign in, please note who's starting ahead of you. Be
alert to your start time. I'll announce the time of the first rider
starting off five minutes before, so use some math to figure out when
you're going off.
-- The course is smooth, fast, pretty, and straight. BUT there are a
couple of pot-holes appearing. They'll be marked, but stay alert.
We'll place cones alongside the road where the holes are, so be
aware. There are houses about midway on the course as well as three
dirt roads that connect the highway to the course and might have
gravel around them. We'll sweep best we can. Again, I say keep your
head up at these areas. There are no dogs of which I'm aware.
-- The turn will be marked by an "X" in the middle of the road. There
will be two orange cones on both sides of the road at that point and,
if you're lucky, I'll have a sign up to warn you about 100 meters
before it. There will be other markings on the road, too. If I don't
have a volunteer at the turnaround, you'll be on your honor to ride
around the "X" as you turn.
Shannon Koch and her coach, Nathan Rogut, will be here
Wednesday to try out the course and see everyone since she was unable
to be at our CrossRoads Time Trial last March. She raced with the
Category 3 men this past weekend at the Ft. Davis Stage Race in Texas
in preparation for Junior Nationals and just three weeks ago
participated in her first UCI race at Redlands after a 16th place GC
finish at Valley of the Sun. Be sure to visit with her before she
heads off to Utah in June.

Team Backpacker/The Bicycle Shop Wins More Adventure Races
From Wayne Stockton
Baton Rouge-based Team Backpacker/the Bicycle Shop has had two more
successful racing weekends taking first overall recently in the New
Orleans Urban adventure race held out of City Park in New Orleans and
first overall at the Texas Pain in the Pines 12- hour adventure race
in Tyler.
The New Orleans race was one of the most exciting races so far in the
LaAR series. It came down to the last few minutes with
Backpacker/Bicycle Shop barely beating out East Bank
Cyclery all male team to the finish line. Dave Poleto put on one of
the best urban races seen in a long time and most all the teams had a
great time racing in down town New Orleans and City Park. Darius
Sampey, one of the teams members suffered a hip injury early in the
race, and struggled through the runs. He was unable to compete with
the team in the 12-hour Pain in the Pines and was replaced by Kip
Fiebig of Austin TX. He did a fine job as they won the overall at
this race too, beating Need to Bleed by an hour and 55 minutes.
The team looks forward to racing with everyone at the first Baton
Rouge adventure race on May 7th. Team Backpacker/The Bicycle Shop is
Dave Bogle, Misty Richard, Jeff Diamond and Darius Sampey.
Cinco de Mayo Two Miler Set
May 5th is the date of Cinco de May two miler at Audubon Park at 6:30
p.m. Stay tuned for details.
