"There are no accidents, only nature throwing her weight around ... nature
will pick up the cards we have spilled , shuffle them, and begin her game
again." Camile Paglia
The April 23 Louisiana Triathlon in Pointe Coupée Parish is filling up fast.
There are no printed brochures/applications; all entries are being handled
via the web at lawired.com or via active.com. The closer the event draws,
the higher the entry fees are; so sign up now to save some money. Don't
forget that the bike to run transition is again a point-to-point segment of
the race. That means after the race participants will need to find a way
back 1.5 miles to the transition area at the boat launch in downtown New
Roads. The Pointe Coupée Chamber of Commerce says motels and B&Bs are
filling fast for those who choose to spend the night at the race site. New
Roads is about a 45-minute drive from Baton Rouge and 60 minutes from
Lafayette. Get details on the 12th annual event via lawired.com and click on
the event icon to the web site. It is again a Championchip scored event and
involves an 800-meter swim, a 30km bike ride, and a 5km run.

As always, I could use some volunteers for New Roads. And as always, I can
more effectively sort out tasks if folks let me know sooner than later what they
can or want to do. There are plenty of tasks that can be done before the event,
especially the week of the event. So let me hear from you if you can help in anyway.
Whether you volunteer in New Roads or not, those who race at least once a month should
pick an event and help. Take time to think what goes into making it possible for you to race;
there are zillions of details that can make the difference in a good race and a great race. Race
directors always need help and they need seasoned racers especially who put themselves in
racers' shoes and know how to effectively help race directors continue putting quality and safe
events.
The PelicanMan Duathlon in St. Bernard Parish is set for this weekend. There is no on-line registration.
The event announcement for the Tour LeFleur bike race in Mississippi, April
16-17, is now available:

I hear the only team uniforms seen at the Opelousas duathlon was the Baton
Rouge Tri group. Where were all the Geckos and Quakers and Red River Tri folks?
L'Ardeche ride on the famous European bicycle race course is set. I've
gotten a share of French emails inviting "our Louisiana brothers and
sisters" to ride. Check out L'Ardechoise:

Holy Toledo Tri Getting Set for April 17th
The date is April 17th. The place is Cypress Bend Resort. Fees go up for
the entry on Friday, April 1, and that's no April fools joke. The people who
participate are the few, the proud and as race director Bobo Anderson says,
the holy. Accommodations are great, scenery and terrain are beautiful and
challenging at the same time. The headquarters resort is within two miles
of the race, not far from the town of Many, which is not far from Leesville,
which is not far from Zwolle. The resort is ideal for folk watching the
race, too, with the starting area so near and offering nice views of Toledo
Bend.
Baton Rouge Adventure Race Team Scores Well in Texas
From Wayne Stockton
Team Backpacker/The bicycle Shop captured their third straight victory last
weekend in the Texas Steel Sports Caprock Canyons 72-hour Adventure Race.
Just coming off another win in the elite coed division at the Louisiana Adventure
Race opener in the spillway at Norco on March 12, Team Backpacker/The Bicycle Shop had an
impressive win at the 72-hour Caprock race. The team beat second place by
seven hours and a few minutes.
Team members completed the course in about 45 hours with a reported six
minutes of sleep at hour 21! The whole team covered 100 or more miles of
off-road cycling/hike-a-bike, 35+ miles of running/trekking, 8-10 miles of
canoeing and about 5000+ feet of vertical climbing and trekking. The team's strength
in this race was it's strong navigating abilities. There were no major
stumbles with checkpoints during the entire race and the course was
navigated cleanly.
There were some strong teams at this race and the lead
changed several times in the first 10 hours of racing. The first long trek is
where they separated themselves from the field. The second and third place
team took four or more hours to find a tough checkpoint and Team backpacker/ The
Bicycle Shop never looked back. Team Backpacker/The Bicycle Shop is David Bogle, Misty
Richard, Jeff Diamond and Darius Sampey. The next Steel Sports race is on
April 16, 2005 in Tyler, Texas and is slated for 12 hours. The team looks
forward to seeing some of the strong Louisiana teams come out to race some of these
tough long Texas courses.
Opelousas Duathlon Photos Available
From Karen Thibodeaux
I am offering a one-time offer for the Opelousas Duathlon. All 4x6, 5x7,
and 8x10 photos are half off the normal price. Offer is good only on these
sizes. If you have already purchased your photos at the "higher" rate,
please contact us and we will refund you the difference.
Some of the photos appear dark on the website, however, they can all be
color corrected! Also, some of the bike shots seem "far away" - we will
crop those to look closer! We had a new photographer shooting this event
and think he did a great job for the first time to shoot a multi-sport
event. If you have any questions about the photos, please do not hesitate
to contact me at 9605 Panola Way, Houston, TX 77055 or phone 713.984.2375.
