The big Crescent City Classic 10km is set for Saturday in New Orleans. Is it still the biggest outdoor fitness event in the state? Just curious. How was last weekend's Lakeshore 10km run in Baton Rouge, put on by LSU Sports Rec?
Race director Rusty Bex's duathlon in Opelousas went on even thought the heavens opened, thunder bolted, and some racers slept in! Way to go in keeping the event going. I heard that the skies cleared nicely and the race was a wonderful and safe event. The results are posted at lafayettefitness.org.
April 10th is the Bare Bones Duathlon in Sulphur and the DuLaPlace race in St. John the Baptist Parish, site of the recently held LaMBRA time trials. It's a 2-mile run, 10-mile bike and ends with a 2-mile run. Contact 504.271.3930. Get the Bare Bones Du details below.
Wow, the Baton Rouge cycling training races on the River Road are already drawing pretty nice-sized packs. Did you hear that the speed has been pretty brisk, too? How are other week-day rides going elsewhere around the state? Start time has been at 5 p.m. but moves to 5:30 p.m. when day light savings time returns.
The May 7 St. Francisville Miles for Smiles ride in the Felicianas is growing to be a big training ride for lots of competitive riders. The names popping up on the registration list make the ride look very interesting to those involved in LaMBRA events. Of course, there will be lots of touring riders as well. This is one of the best events to go to and be assured you'll get a great door prize. Call 225.924.3619 for details. It's a fund raiser for the Lions Club handicapped camp in Leesville and the Eye Foundation based in New Orleans.
Velodrome Cycling Series Starts Saturday
From Chris Stokes
This is just a reminder that the first race in the 2005 LaMBRA Track Series brought to you by the Herring Gas Cycling Team is this Saturday, March 26, 2005. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. and racing at 6p.m. at the velodrome in Baton Rouge.
The race flyer can be found at:
http://www.herring-cycling.com/TrackFlyer3_26_2005.pdf
There will also be a beginning rider instructional session beginning at 3:30 p.m. prior to registration. In the event of bad weather Saturday evening, I will post a notice of cancellation if one is made prior to race time. Otherwise, please come out and join in on an exciting night of racing.
If you have a spare track bike and cannot make it to the race, why not post a notice to the LaMBRA email list or to your teammates in case anyone would like to borrow it for the racing.

April 17th Set for Purple & Gold Tri at LSU
Saturday, April 17th is the date of the annual Purple & Gold Triathlon on
the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. Participants start with a 5km run, (yeah,
that's right), then ride on poorly paved roads for 20 miles, then finish
with a 400-yard pool swim. The race has a new start at the LSU Sports Rec
center across from Miller Dorm and near the sorority row.
It's a laid-back, low-key sort of event that's got more and more folks
racing every year. Sometimes the advertised distances raced are accurate and
sometimes they are not. Treat it as a good warm-up for bigger races. Entry
fee is $18 and it's highly recommended that you pre-register since most
volunteers are paid LSU students who -- bless their hearts -- aren't awake
for on-site registration and never heard of a triathlon until being told
they had to work the previous day. Remember, you get what you pay for!
Check out the internet at lsu.edu/urec or phone 225.578.8601.

13th Annual Randonée Écrevisse Set April 24 for Any and All

The annual Randonée Écrevisse ride is open to as many riders as want to

Last week in this enote, it was incorrectly reported that there was a rider
limit in the Cajun Cyclists Bicycle Club Randonnée Écrevisse on April 24,
2005. Starting in Lafayette, there will be a choice of long (40 mile) and
short (20 mile) options with a rest stop strategically placed along the
route. Upon returning to the Hub City, a Crawfish feast and live Zydeco
music awaits you. This year's Randonnée will again coincide with the
popular Festival International de Louisiane, a multi-day event that
highlights music, crafts, cuisine, and cultural exchanges from all over the
world. For more information on this festival, please go to
www.festivalinternational.com. Look for additional information regarding
registration on our website at www.cajuncyclists.org.

Rules Clarified for April 2 Beginner Governor's Triathlon in Lake Charles
From Sam Houston Jones IV
The Governor's Triathlon is a race for beginners. It's designed to bring new
folks to the sport of triathlon. Participants must be able to answer "yes"
to at least one of the following questions:
#1 - Have never completed a triathlon. (obviously an "absolute beginner")
#2 - Have competed in pool-swim triathlons only (even if it was last week
and even if you've done 10 of them!)
#3 - Have competed in open water triathlons, but over three years ago (a
"comeback" beginner)
The purpose of this "beginners only" event is to eliminate the two biggest
deterrents for new people considering the sport: (a) It's a safe, shallow
water pool swim with a minimal risk of potential contact with other swimmers
(not the murky-watered battleground we're used to!), and (b) Everyone is in
the same boat experience-wise, so you won't have to feel intimidated by
elite triathletes with their $5,000 bikes and fancy equipment.
Once again, the date is April 2nd and the place is the McNeese Recreation
Complex. Go to www.lakecharlestriathletes.com for more information and
online registration details.
