If we are not responsible for the thoughts that pass our doors, we
are at least responsible for those we admit and entertain."
Charles B. Newcomb
On-line registration via active.com has been opened for the
Mandeville Du-Donnie-Du, the Opelousas Sunrise Rotary Duathlon, the
Crawfishman Triathlon in St. Tammany Parish, and the Louisiana
Triathlon in Pointe Coupée Parish. Bo Bo Anderson said the
holytoledotri.com web site is up and "crawling."
Rick Montgomery of the greater New Orleans area is one hard-working
dude for the GNO Tri group. He's been trying to coordinate with me
to include the GNO Tri group on these multisportreport.com notes and
for whatever reason, I can't seem to get a set up that works for his
Greater New Orleans-based clan. Let me assure Rick and all those
with the GNO Tri group that I'm not purposefully excluding any group
from getting these enotes. I want everyone and anyone interested in
receiving this enewsletter to be able to get it. But I'm not a
techie -- or however it's spelled -- and I've got no understanding
of why I'm having trouble sending a group enewsletter to
GNO Tri. Hang in there with me as I ease into the 21st century.
In the meantime, you should be able to logon to multisportreport.
com (thanks to yahoo.com) and read the enewsletters -- past and
present.
Did you know there are two John Deshotel (s); one who writes his
last name with an "s" and the other without an "s." The one without
the "s" is the faster of the two and used to have an address in the
town of Maurice, which was annexed to Lafayette. That makes it very
confusing. Both are regular participants in running and racing in
the Bayou State. So pay attention to those names out there.
Speaking of Deshotel, he crossed the finish line second overall at
the 200 or so-person Frost Yer Fanny Duathlon in northwest Louisiana
over the weekend. Trouble is a USA Tri referee said he mounted (or
was it dismounted?) his bike in an illegal zone. He was penalized
two minutes. Witnesses insist they saw the fast Deshotel correctly
mount and dismount. He is challenging the ruling to maintain his
second place overall finish in the points-heavy regional race staged
for the first time in its history in Louisiana. Congratulations to
Matt Brown and company of Sportspectrum in Shreveport for putting on
what all have said was an excellent race.
Congrats also to Robert Sigerson of Covington for enduring on the
USA Triathlon regional board. He pressed points with the Texas-
packed board and kept Louisiana multisport voices heard when no one
else would speak up for those of us in the Bayou State.
Multisporters owe Sigerson at least a word of thanks. He was
especially important in bringing two more Louisiana multisporters to
the regional USA Tri board.
I'm glad the LaMBRA competitive bike racing "adjustments"
or "changes" have been thoroughly addressed. There was some
controversy in the competitive cycling ranks as to what category
racers would be riding with whom this season for LaMBRA (Louisiana
Mississippi Bicycle Racing Association). Sadly, the pitfalls of one-
dimensional email communication snagged more than a few
in the itnernet exchanges, and no doubt some notes got personal and
feelings were hurt. Be careful using the internet and only the
internet to communicate controversial, sensitive issues.
Oh yes, did I mention I am still working on the printed edition of
the Louisiana Multisport Report? Hang in there; I promise it's
coming soon.
Don't forget the Feb. 19 Evangeline Oak Duathlon in St. Martinville.
