"Remembering the past gives power to the present." Faye Myenne Ng
Race director Chuck George of the New Orleans Track Club is one of those guys who's always emailing with lots of great information about running and racing in Louisiana. Not surprisingly, I often get a shore of his emailed info tangled. Recently he offered such simple advice, but oh so hard for editors to handle. "Just use and email what I send and the way I send it," George suggested. What a novel idea!
Keith Hebert of Acadiana and company are working hard on their first Evangeline Oak Duathlon set for St. Martinville on Feb. 19th. With all the duathlons going on this year, this one should be good as a second duathlon of the year. Of course, the first one is next weekend at Matt Brown's Frost Yer Fanny event in northwest Louisiana. St. Martinville is a nice venue for a great race, in fact for many years there was a duathlon involving canoeing there. Register online via active.com or call 337/942-8565.
We're trudging along with finalizing this year's printed Louisiana Multisport Report. Thanks to all who've helped with the thousands of details that go into putting this little labor of love together. We should have the project in the U.S. mail by next week, so I'm told.
The great regional cycling event power brokers met over the weekend in St. Francisville and sorted out details for the Louisiana Mississippi Bicycle Racing Association's points race. Check the details out on updated event dates and new rules for the points race at bicycleracing.com. I was sorry that the 45+ category was changed as I enter my last year in that age group.
I hear that LSU Sport Recreational folks are haggling over whether or not to have a triathlon this year. Usually, LSU Sport Recreational folks put on a small-scale triathlon and it's gotten bigger and bigger every year. Ben McGuire of LSU says there's a snag now with no Special Olympics Pool now or similar facility to use in or near the campus. The LSU swim coach has been a stickler about using "his" pool and now there's a problem. A duathlon has been considered as an alternative.
Speaking of LSU, the LSU Vet School is busy again looking for its running race with pets again this year, usually called the Great Rover Road Run. Be on the look out for this very fun event, featuring every imaginable pet the world knows. Usually the event is a 5km that goes along the River Road right near the LSU Vet School in Baton Rouge.

The female record, though not a female championship race, is held by Amy Simonetta who finished in 36:57 in 2003.
