I like the t-shirt idea. Even better about pinning your name on. Not that it would ruin a shirt, but you only have so many tech shirts that you run in.
BTW - the potty comment didn't phase me at all, Candy. I have 2 myself.
My weekend goals are 8 on Saturday and 17 on Sunday.
If you don't want to ruin a good shirt-put it on an old t-shirt -cut it out and pin it to your shirt. That really does help!

I'm shooting for 10min/mile pace at the marathon. My goal is to finish in a respectable manner (not coming in on a stretcher, crossing the finish line one my own 2 feet in an upright position). That pace seems really slow to me, but I don't want to run out of gas. Am I being a wimp? Plan on eating bagel, etc. as Candy advised at least 2 hours prior to race. Not sure how many Gu's to take on the course with me...I'm thinking 4 - that would be one per hour. I drink loads of water all day, so I think I have the hydration thing down. Here's a wierd question (don't laugh): should I be drinking enough that I'd have to make a porta-potty stop during the marathon? Walk through the water stops? Has anyone ever run with a pace group? I'm thinking it might be good
to attach myself to one of those.

HI Sue. Congrats on running your first marathon. It's a lot of work but well worth the effort in the end. I ran Chicago and Boston a few years ago. This is tough race no matter what pace you run. I wished I had done more strength training-especially for Boston because of the hills. I am not sure what the course is like for Cinnci. The long runs are very important in your training, as well getting in a few road races under your belt before hand. Maybe a 5 or 10K. There are many coming up around here. The day of the race, really hydrate yourself- and eat something before the race-yogurt and banana or something with peanutbutter and whole wheat bagel. You need a little protein and some carbs. I also ate a power bar a little before the race. I brought lemon drops with me (anything with some sugar in it) to eat during the race-raisins or gummy bears will work too. Plus it gave me something to look forward to during the race.
I would recommend getting a massage
before(a few days) and after the race. This really helped me recover faster after Boston. I didn't do that for Chicago and I could not walk right for a week!!!
Good luck-I know of a few people from Clarksburg who are running in Cinnci.
Maybe we could get a run in sometime together. I am training for the triathlons this summer.
Keep up the training-

Post your message to the WV Hashing Yahoo Groups. Lots of these runners have tons of marathon experience. In Yahoo Groups....go to WVHHH.
I had to cancel NY for two years due to Plantar Fasitic. Had surgery and now scheduled to do my first Marathon in Philly in November.
Good luck in Cinnci!!!!

Sue, my advice is not to train. why go thru all of the pain doing months of prep work, injuries and fatigue when you can relax have fun and only suffer that one day during the race.
just kidding, I have only done 1/2's before so I'm as interested in listening as you are.
Good luck, Ben

Hi Sue,
My name is Dave Horvath. I am training for triathlons and half
marathons. Right now my long runs are around 75 minutes at a 10
minute per mile pace. I plan to increase the distance by about 10
minutes (one mile) per week with a plateau every third week for
recovery. I would be happy to join you or have you join me on these
runs.

Yes - it's open, but if there is a track practice going on you may not
be able to use it. They are usually in there in the afternoons.

Hey all,
I created a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet Training Log and have uploaded
it to this site. You can use it to track your running, biking, and
swimming miles. Or you can just use it for running.
I included some instructions and tips on how to use it - hopefully you
will find it to be user friendly and not too confusing.
If you have any questions feel free to e-mail me:
markjack99@...
Hope someone finds it useful.

Thought I'd pass this on from the Hash Group site:
There will be a training run this Sunday @ 1:30pm. @ Cooper's Rock.
We will meet @ the entrance gate. The distance you run is up to you.
John will carry chalk and mark the turns on the trail so that no one
gets lost. He promises to cross the main road @ different points so
runners can head back to their vehicles. Come out and enjoy New Years
Day with us as we sweat away those unwanted carbs from all that New
Years Brew and eats...
On-On,
Belloman...
Sandy
Does anyone know if UNO's Snowflake Chase is being held this year? If
not, does anyone know of any other good races 5k-10k in length in mid
January?
Thanks
