Re: [MiyataSpecTour] Increasing Price of Vintage Touring Bikes

I wonder, does anyone knows what the sticker price of a Miyata 1000 was in 1986? I know that when I bought my Specialized Expedition in 1986, I paid $499 for it, which was $200 off of the msrp. Assuming some inflation in the last 21 years, I think that $700 for that Miyata was reasonable. And the condition was stunning for a bike that old.

There was an Expedition on heaveBay last night that sold for a tad over $400. I was surprised that it sold for that much: to my eyes, the only original equipment left on the bike were the wheels, the crankset, the headset and the shifters. Unless I'm very mistaken, almost everything else had been swapped out with era-correct derailleurs, etc, but it was middle-of-the-road stuff. Am I wrong about that?

As to a Trek 720, I paid $420 for mine about 2 years ago, and I'd be curious if anyone ( again ) knows what the sticker price on a 60cm 1984 Trek 720 was.

Joe

I noticed that a very original condition 63cm 1986 Miyata 1000 sold recently on Ebay for almost $700.
