Listees,
Been meaning to tell y'all a bit about my '86 Sequoia.
It's the white one. So here goes. Spotted it during a
routine search for Specialzed stuff on eBay. It was my
size and had a reasonable (IMO) Buy It Now so I bought
it then. The thing is 53 ctt st, 53 ctc tt, 72 ha and
74 sa with 44 cs and 5.5 rake. Similar geometry to the
1000LT and Gran Turismo but with steeper st, less rake
and tire clearance. Frame details like the windows and
S on the fork crown and seat stay plugs and the brake
bridge star reiforcements are classy. Paint is in good
to very good condition with the usual few scratches.
Specialized triple, XT rear derailleur, LX front, 105
DT shifters and 13x30 fw are overkill here in NE
Louisiana where the topography is either flat or a
hole in the ground. Brakes are Royal Gran Compe 500
with GC compact aero levers that are white w/ black
hoods. The wheels are original Spec 36 hole hubs with
dark ano Saturne rims. Front has a big flat spot so I
put one of my spares (600/MA40) on. Right now it has a
Tom Slick 28 (actual 25) on front and a Pasela TG 32
(actual 27) on back with room for fenders. Looks like
it might take real 30's without.
The seller swapped out the 'generic' bar/stem before
shipping with a widish (44x110) Cinelli bar/stem but
didn't mention it 'til after he had shipped it. I
can't use them and offer the bar/stem for trade to
anyone who might like to have them. I installed my
usual 10cm Spec riser MTB stem to get the bar up to
saddle height and put on a 3TTT Forma...GASP...ergo
bar with cork wrap. It is actually very comfortable
with a wide top, short 'ramp' and shallow drop. I left
the Vetta SL (wide/flat) saddle that came from the
seller and pushed it back to compensate for the steep
seat tube angle.
Now to the part that matters most. It rides very
comfortably and is more responsive than the
1000LT/Gran Turismo. This is probably due in part to
the 32mm tires on those two tourers and maybe a
lighter/tighter/shorter wheelbase frame on the
Sequoia.
I'll try to put up a pic or two in the MST photo
section.
Terry
