Rainy day was still full of stars in Fort Myers   Message List

We were treated to the All-star monsoon yesterday
afternoon, which caused to gates to open early, then
dampened pretty much everything except spirits.

The guys game out in groups to sign autographs and
rotated every 15 mintues.

JD Durbin stayed on for over half an hour after his 15
minutes were done and signed autographs for any and
all comers. He was great!

I said goodby to Joe and JD, and JD replied he hadn't
got the call up yet. Well...he got it after the game.

Quad city plays it's All-star game on Tuesday June
17th at Fifth Third Ballpark in Comstock Park,
Michigan. The Miracle will probably recieve
reinforcements directly after that.

The rain washed out the home run derby. Vero Beach
outfielder Franklin Gutierrez, the FSL leader in home
runs with 15, was declared the winner and presented
with a trophy.

The field looked GREAT. Excellent work by the grounds
crew, not only getting the field ready to begin with,
but getting it ready to play on after two hours plus
of heavy rains.

Phil E. Phox, the mascot for Clearwater, put in an
appearance with Rutgers on the DL. Phil entertained
fans in the audience. He is no relation to Fort Myers
public address announcer Sean Fox.

Despite the rain, despite the fact that the East beat
the West (Go West-Stars!) and we were cheering for
some guys we would never otherwise in our lives cheer
for, it was a pretty good night.

The only really down part was the fireworks display at
the end, which was, without a double the worst display
I've very seen Fort Myers put on. (I'm thinking it
was economic factors at work. The team spent a ton of
money on the All-star game and big fireworks display
just could not fit into the budget.)

Congratulations and much thanks to all the staff of
the Fort Myers Miracle for all your hard work, and for
making it a truely All-star weekend.
