Jim Abbott led the league in ERA starting Wednesday
nights game at Jack Russell Memorial Stadium, but he
didn’t have his best stuff lasting just 0.2 of an
inning as the Clearwater Phillies defeated the Fort
Myers Miracle 9-4.

Abbott gave up five runs in the first, his most in any
start this season. The Miracle tried to come back,
getting a run in the second on a double play groundout
that scored Jason Kubel. They scored another in the
third, fourth and got an RBI single from Stephen Tope
in the fifth, but never got closer than two runs.

The Miracle have one more opportunity to break the
franchise record for wins in a half. Tonight the
Miracle send LHP Jeff Randazzo (2-1, 5.71) to the hill
against Phillie All-Star RHP Layne Dawson (6-3, 3.39).
Game time is 7:00 p.m. It is the final game of the
first half.
