Atlanta Braves' Gary Sheffield
NL: Sheffield, Braves big winners on ballot
They've won 11 consecutive division titles, they're leading the National League East, and for the last six weeks no NL team has a better record than the Atlanta Braves (28-9). So it stands to reason the Braves are making a serious run in balloting for the 2003 All-Star Game. Leading the way, outfielder Gary Sheffield moved into the top three and is ahead of St. Louis' Albert Pujols.   More >

  • AL: Blue Jays' Delgado ahead of East rival Giambi
Carlos Delgado has begun making as much noise at the ballot box as in the batter's box. The Toronto first baseman has overtaken Jason Giambi in voting for the 2003 American League All-Star team. Delgado leads the AL in homers and RBIs, and he now also leads the Yankee by more than 29,000 votes. The races for the third outfield spot and starting third baseman also are nail-biters.   More >

Who's afraid of Friday the 13th?
Others may live in fear of this fabled date. But for baseball fans, it just might be the luckiest day of the year. St. Louis visits Yankee Stadium, where the team with 26 World Series rings plays host to the next-best franchise, which has nine. The 35 pieces of jewelry represent 36 percent of the Major Leagues' all-time champions. The weekend's Interleague schedule features Atlanta at Seattle in a showdown between baseball's current league leaders; Jeff Bagwell swinging for the first time at the Green Monster; and Pudge Rodriguez back in Texas. Roger Clemens
    Chasing 300
    Rocket eyes double play
The New York Yankees' Roger Clemens is one victory shy of 300 and four strikeouts shy of 4,000. In other words, he is poised to become the Major Leagues' third member -- joining fellow Texan Nolan Ryan and lefty Steve Carlton -- of the 300-4,000 Club. The Rocket, a shoo-in Hall-of-Famer, is itching to reach those figures Friday night against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Clemens has departed each of his last two starts with a late-inning lead intact, only to see the bullpen and opponents combine to delay the celebration. Will the Redbirds keep the fireballer on the back-burner? Experience the answer, live, on MLB.com. More Notable Numbers: MLB.com's Milestone Tracker
