Since Nesta has come back from holiday and has resumed training for
the new season, it is time for MOD3 to stir from its summer slumber.

Has anyone noticed this bit from acmilan.com's front page feature article?

NEW SEASON DAWNS
7/14/2005 2:21:00 PM
Milan have warmed up their engines and are ready to get off to a
roaring start to the new season. The players gathered at Milanello on
Thursday for the first day of pre-season training. Rino Gattuso was
one of the first to arrive, having worked with the new arrivals
yesterday afternoon along with Lino Marzoratti, promoted to the
first-team squad, Alessandro Nesta and Kakhaber Kaladze.
[.....]

I know everyone takes Nesta being punctual and hard-working for
granted. But on a slow-news-day in the early pre-season, I might as
well point out Nesta arriving a day before the official start of
training camp to start work with the workaholic Gattuso and a few
others, and pass it off as "news". ;-D

Penny and CA, thank you for the ratings.

I haven't watched the match yet.
But I'm looking forward to receiving the video tape tomorrow.

Nesta played the match.....I thank and admire him for that!!

I was impressed to see a photo of the Milanisti in the stadium.
They are the supporters who were with the team in an away game, even
after the disappointing result of the CL, besides the Serie A's.
I believe, the players shouldn't forget that there are such
supporters and that they paid for Milan's games, though they are not
as rich as the players.

Forza Nesta!!

LOVE,
Junko

hi. i saw the mathc, and milan plyed very well above all in the first half. milan fans musn´t be anngry with the team they good a good match.
in general it was a good match, althougth i would be more happy if the result was other
in the extra time i think milan iwas the only team that llokr for a goal, liverpool want the penalties arrive.
the penaltis are like a lottery, you can win and you can lost. all can happen. I hate the penalties,
mila had bad luck, thats all. it is more i think milan deserve to win
about nesta. he was great, he  played very well.as it was solid.
i am sure milan will have another opportunity the next year, i think nothing must be changed in the team, becasue they have had a good season, althoguth they hadn´t won any tittle.

However, I must say that I don't feel like writing my usual entire
report (which would mean rewriting about all the important plays, and

I thought Nesta was solid in defense, and more so than Stam. He
didn't make any mistakes that I found led to a Liverpool goal. His
play was solid, he was marking his adversaries tightly most of the
time (proof, Baros didn't do much during this match), and played a
nice clean match.

Milan didn't play badly in my opinion. It's true that they lost in a
spectacular fashion (a really remarkable comeback), but I didn't find
that they were humiliated in any way. They could have won the match.
Shevchenko had some scoring opportunities that should have turned
into goals, the penalty kicks were really unfortunate by Milan
standards (especially Serginho's, knowing that he can kick so much
better that that, and Sheva's which produced a lucky/good save out of
Dudek). Tomasson also should have scored... Stam could have scored...
There were many missed opportunities.

The first half, like I said in my post-CL post, was a real beauty.
Probably the best half of football Milan has played this season.
Liverpool looked a bit helpless against them, and Milan were really
remarkable on the ball and all the players looked so at ease on the
ball.

The second half wasn't as bad as it may seem, IMHO. The six minutes
during which Liverpool came back was bad, although the second goal
should not have stood anyways. So, it would have been a 3-2 comeback.
Milan were unlucky and not playing as well during those minutes,
although I don't think the defenders were the ones at fault.

The rest of the second half wasn't awful in any way, and Milan were
coming back slowly towards their dominant self and the ones creating
the best opportunities.

During the extra time, Milan definetly looked like the best team, I
thought. They were the ones closest to scoring, and they really
looked like they would manage to get the goal that would save their
match.

During the penalty kicks  though, it was obvious that luck wasn't on
Milan's side. Questions could be asked on the penalty takers, but
looking at the list from an objective point of view, prior to the CL
kicks, I would have given thumbs up to the choice of players. I
wouldn't have argued against Ancelotti picking Serginho, whom I think
is a bit of an unpredictable kicker, and left footed as well, or
against Pirlo, the penalty expert, or against Sheva. Tomasson might
have been a doubt for me, but since he scored and he's a striker, I
surely wouldn't have argued against him taking a penalty. I wouldn't
have argued against the choice of Kakà either. I mean, who could
argue against such a list?
They didn't get the kicks as right as Liverpool, but penalty kicks
are not always fair (not necessarily the best team wins), and it
depends on luck, and of course, on the goalkeeper.

My only complaint is that I would have liked to see Rui Costa at one
point during the game. I think he could have been useful.

Other than that, I'd like tot hak Milan for the wonderful season, and
wish them a wonderful one next year, as well as a revenge in the CL.

Forza Milan!
Mary

P.S.: I am very grateful and happy that Ancelotti is staying next
season. He wouldn't have deserved the sack.

I have finished watching the entire CL match.

However, I must say that I don't feel like writing my usual entire

Finally the season was already over (insipidly for us and all Milanisti). I
didn't watch this game and there won't watch at all because our network
decided broadcated the another important games included the game of
champion as I told you before, so I tried to find more details about this
game that I found something important for us which from Yahoo.it at th
86th when Milan equilized.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
In Italian :
86' Gol! Udinese 1, Milan 1. Claudio Serginho (Milan) di sinistro dalla
lunga distanza palla termina sotto la traversa in alto a destra. Assist di
Alessandro Nesta con suggerimento di testa.

Translated in English by Bubble fish :
86' Goal! Udinese 1, Milan 1. Claudius Serginho (Milan) of left from the
long distance ball finishes up under the right crosspiece. Assist di
Alexander Nesta with head suggestion.
------------------------------------------------------------------
If I'm not wrong, he assisted the ball to Serginho, didn't he ?
Anyway I will wait for some match reports from some members who could
watch the last game of season.

Yes, Rodrigo aka Digao is Kaka's younger brother. I wouldn't mind
seeing him play. And Tomasson is out of the lineup with a muscular
injury; he's been replaced by a Primavera, Sandro Bloudek, who is Bosnian.

Like Ming, I think it would be best if Milan ended the season with a
victory after such a killer defeat. Like Junko, I've always thought a
Simic - Nesta partnership might work very well indeed. I still have no
idea why Simic was completely frozen out of the team. Obviously he
wouldn't be first choic at rightback once Cafu joined up, but it seems
to me that he would have been a good backup for Maldini or Nesta when
they were suspended or injured. He'll obviously be leaving, as he
needs to play to make sure he gets picked for his NT for the World Cup.

Anyway, according to the probably lineups posted at the Milan site, it
seems we'll finally get to see Simic and Nesta playing together for
one game:

Abbiati/Dida (both are listed, depending on the paper)
Pancaro - Simic - Nesta - Kaladze
Pirlo
Brocchi - Serginho
Dhorasoo
Inzaghi - Crespo

I don't know how those two will work up front, but I'm not unhappy
with the defense. I wouldn't mind seeing Esajas subbed in. ;-) I don't
even know if he's a central defender or a fullback.

As for the absences, here are the reasons/excuses:

Rui Costa - suspended
Ambrosini - injured (happy birthday anyway!)
Tomasson - recent injury
Costacurta - stiff neck (!)
Cafu - allergy
Stam - muscular problem
Sheva - muscular problem
Maldini - knee problem

i understnad milan play with other player.i think they d are going to play with intensity becasue it is the last match, and they must be upset fot what happened the other day, but they must try to win , and sing off with a victory.
i will be happy if nesta play.

I have always liked the way Simic plays.
Though he was not perfect as a side-back and we have never got

2 games), I like his defending in one-on-one and in covering and
supporting his teammates.

If Nesta doesn't play, I will be a little disappointed.
But I understand that playing this game would be hard for the
players who played a 120 minutes' game 4 days ago.
Even if he is the youngest defender, he is not as young as a 24 year-
old player.
So, if he is rested, maybe no one will blame him.

LOVE,
Junko

2 games), I like his defending in one-on-one and in covering and
supporting his teammates.

If Nesta doesn't play, I will be a little disappointed.
But I understand that playing this game would be hard for the
players who played a 120 minutes' game 4 days ago.
Even if he is the youngest defender, he is not as young as a 24 year-
old player.
So, if he is rested, maybe no one will blame him.

LOVE,
Junko

From acmilan.com:

5/28/2005
Coach Carlo Ancelotti has called up 19 players for the trip to Udinese:

GOALKEEPERS: Abbiati, Dida, Fiori;

DEFENDERSI: Esajas, Kaladze, Nesta, Pancaro, Rodrigo, Simic;

MIDFIELDERS: Brocchi, Dhorasoo, Gattuso, Kakà, Pirlo, Seedorf, Serginho;

STRIKERS: Crespo, Inzaghi, Tomasson.

-----------------------------------------

I don't know if any of you care about this game, but the club
certainly doesn't seem to.

I am not sure if Nesta will actually play, but looking at that list of
defenders, I suspect he will play. Although I won't complain too much
if he is rested/given an early summer holiday, I'd be happy if Nesta
plays, because I can see this game on TV. But Junko may be upset that
Nesta is made to play in a game the club doesn't care about and may be
"made to look inferior". ;-)

Well, at least CA may have the chance to see Esajas play. And BTW, is
Rodrigo the Rodrigo who is Kaka's little brother?!?

Seriously though, I had hoped that the club, the staff and the players
would take this game seriously, go out and take the disappointment and
anger out on Udinese, give a good showing and end the season on a high
note even though that wouldn't change the results. You know the
cliche about the best way to overcome falling off a horse is to get
right back on the saddle? I think the players may actually be able to
enjoy their summer holidays a little better if they play a good game
against Udinese. But I also understand that this game might have come
too soon after the CL final for some of the players to recover
physically and/or mentally. (Sheva is said to be taking the defeat
particularly hard, according to the Chinese media.) I am glad Nesta
is given the chance to "get right back on the saddle", and I hope he
gives a good account of himself if he plays.

As always,
Forza Nesta!
Forza Milan!

Dear Ming, Stefana, Mary
Thank you so much from my heart, all of your replies made me feel better
to start working this morning. Actually I usually told myself 'it's impossible for a
great to be a champion every years', but it's difficult for me to accept that they
lead 3-0 in 1st half, but were been equilized in couple minutes of the 2nd half.
Ming, I hope Milan will be success again as Bayern too. Got to continue
working now. Take care and hope you have a great day all.Bye.

Personnally Penny, I'd at least watch the first half if I were you.
Milan were playing absolutely delightful football during the first 45
minutes, and it's worth it to see them in action, in my opinion.

I've personnally watched most of the game (the first half, the second
period of extra time, and the penalty kicks) and I'll surely watch
the rest tonight, when I have a bit more time.

BTW CA, being at work wasn't a smart decision, since I was following
the match live anyways but couldn't see how the team was doing.
I have to thank Görkem for keeping me updated on the match too; he
called on the phone every time something important happened in the
match and to give a few general impressions on the match.

I found the first half beautiful from a Milan point of view. Milan
are just so comfortable on the ball and are such good passers it was
wonderful to see. Kakà was wonderful in the first half, as was the
Milan defense (they weren't really tested, but they avoided all
mistakes which really kept Liverpool alost shackled) and actually,
pretty much the entire Milan team.
The match couldn't have started better for Milan. First corner kick
of the match, Maldini is left totally unmarked, and he managed to
really seize that opportunity and kick Pirlo's corner in the goal.
Unbelievable!

After that, Milan were dominant, at ease on the ball, keeping
Liverpool from doing any harm, and looking calm and confident.
Crespo's goal were nice, especially the first one in my opinion,
since it involved a lot of team work and nice passes.

Overall, I don't think this defeat should be taken too harshly. Milan
were a great team this season - despite the lack of silverware to
show it - and seems a number of good players will arrive this summer
(a few departures too), which should improve an already impressive
team.
Milan's defeat was not shameful, they gave a good performance from
what I have seen to far, so although it's hard to accept to lose when
you were 3-0 up, they can still take some pride in the way they
played in certain moments of the match.

I'll watch the rest of the match tonight or tomorrow, most likely.

Forza Milan and grazie mille per una bella stagione!
Mary

 nesta played very well.
what is it said abou the referee in italy?
in spain it was said that in the secon goal of liverpool the played was anullated becasue of offside but the referee didn´t see the judge of line,
and it is said that in the penalties the liveppol goalkeeper did somthin incoorect, but i dont know what to say it in english sorry.
in my opinio the penal of gattuso wasn´t penal, but i am not sure about that.

My name is Stefana and I want to say that I would like

I want to say now something that can be read in all
the Nesta clubs : we need to think positive and to
suport our team .They lost this game but they are a
great team and they will do a great job in the next
year FORZA MILAN

Hi Penny,

This defeat hurt really bad, and it may take a while to get over.

You may or may not know I am also a Bayern supporter. Bayern lost the
1999 CL final to Man U, conceding 2 goals in 90 seconds in injury
time. That hurt really bad too. (I also have a tape of that game, but
have never watched the second half.)

But Bayern came back to win the CL in 2001.

Milan and Nesta will be back too!

Rough translation of the tgcom.it ratings:

Nesta 6.5
Of the central defensive duo, he stood up more than Stam in the second
half, he also tried to maintain the lucidity of the rossonera
rearguard in its moment of major collapse. Before Crespo's double, he
had a handball in the area while he was down, but the images seem
clear that it was an unintentional error, as Garcia concluded.

-------------------------

I tend to agree that Nesta, Maldini, Kaka' and Sheva were Milan's best
players. The whole team would have received high ratings for the first
half, but unfortunately the game was longer than that.

Forza Nesta!
Forza Milan!

Dear all,
I have to confess that I didn't watch this game, and won't watch
a tape of this game which I recorded last night, I doubt I couldn't watch
it till the end. I really need to cry.  Can anybody calm me down?
I feel I couldn't work any minute and really want to go home now.

ISTANBUL - Alessandro Nesta gives merit to the opponents and said: 'It
is true, we were unlucky but they also did well and scored three goals
within six minutes. We should have won, but words go with wind. This
is a hard defeat to accept. Why didn't I shoot the penalty? I was
taking on fortune.'

There's a shattering photo, with Nesta in the forefront, on the splash

Hi, Venus,

I greatly agree with you.
I felt that Liverpool got the better of Milan in having and showing
their spirit.

I think, the 3-0 leading and the too successful performances during
the 1st half made them too sure of their victory and a little
careless and arrogant.
In the scenes of the 3 lost goals, they looked as if they didn't
know how to move, or they forgot how to deal with those situations,
because they had got too ACCUSTOMED to dominating, thanks to the
first 90 minutes.

I have sometimes felt, when the game is favorable for Milan, the
players can be brilliant, but they tend to get panicked or lack
spirit when it becomes unfavorable.
Although I know it can happen to any team, more or less, I feel it's
particularly remarkable and typical of Milan.
A big club, where winning titles is always a must, can't afford to
have the habit(?).

"Pride goes before destruction (and shame comes after)"

However, in this game, after the 6 minutes of nightmare, they anyway
didn't give up, and they managed to hold up and got better, though
not back to the level of their first 90 minutes, but to the level
of "their usual standard in most matches of this season". I like it.
But it's a pity, they couldn't win the PKs, in spite of the
advantage of their ENOUGH experiences.

LOVE,

acmilan.com came through:

NESTA: 'We were unlucky, but they also did well'
5/26/2005

ISTANBUL - Alessandro Nesta gives merit to the opponents and said: 'It
is true, we were unlucky but they also did well and scored three goals
within six minutes. We should have won, but words go with wind. This
is a hard defeat to accept. Why didn't I shoot the penalty? I was
taking on fortune.'

-----------------

There's a shattering photo, with Nesta in the forefront, on the splash
page. I've uploaded it and a second version to MOD5.

It was the most exciting and nerve racking game that I have ever
had the pleasure to watch. Unfortunately there has to be a winner
and a loser, great game by both teams and my absolute respect to
AC Milan for their class and dignity. it was also a lesson to all
other teams on the true spirit of sportsmanship as displayed by
both teams. Keep your heads up guys....you have been a joy to watch
ALL season and I look forward to next season.

Hi, Mire,

I think the list of the kickers was convincing, except for Serginho.
Although I don't mean Serginho was a bad choice, I wonder why
Ancelotti didn't put Rui Costa in it.

LOVE,
Junko
