It's all part of the grand master plan ;-)
Actually we do need to put together some sort of mailing list so we can get
information out to MWB mebers. What options do we have for creating a
mailing list on midwest-blues.com?
I think you and I need to chat some time about what is where on our to-do
list. I don't think we can run this all by ourselves (god knows where Beth
gets the time or energy!) so we need to prioritize and recruit.
The four things that I see as top of the list are probably:
o Making the MWBs official
o Getting us some help
o Summer Tour
o Merchandising
Thoughts?

FC United given League go-ahead
By Chris Bevan
The new football club set up by disillusioned Manchester United fans has
been accepted into the North West Counties League for next season.
FC United of Manchester will join the Second Division of the competition
and play at Droylsden FC's Butcher's Arms Ground, subject to council
approval.
The Conference North side have a stadium with a capacity of 3,500.
FC United are currently interviewing potential managers and will hold an
open trial for players on 26 June.
More than 2,600 Manchester United fans fighting Malcolm Glazer's
takeover have already pledged money and help to FC United.
Droylsden's owner and manager, Dave Pace, is a lifelong Red Devils fan
who was keen to help his fellow supporters.
He told BBC Sport: "I've done everything I can and it looks like they
are going to be playing at our ground.
"It's hard to say how it will go. The fans feel like they want to do
something to counteract Glazer and it could work.
"It's a stand and all credit to them. It is hard to run a club - and
they will find that out - but they are determined and they seem to have
backing from quite a few, so good luck to them.
"I'm trying to do my bit. I interviewed a couple of managers and pointed
the club in the right direction because they didn't really know the
non-League scene.
"I'm helping them all I can and will continue to do so.
"The managers they are talking to have a good idea of the players at
this level and who they want to get hold of.
"If they struggle to get players I'll probably lend them a couple of
mine."
Andy,
Just a heads up that I'll be going to all three games in July. I'm
trying to get commitments from the family as to which games they want to
go to.
We're planning to spend the week on the east coast and are firming up
the details.
Ira will definitely go to the NY game, but probably not the others & he
may have more going.
I know I have to decide within the next few days and let you know. We
want to be in the Chelsea section.
When is the deadline??

Dear Midwest Blues chatter (and our friends),
As our respective clubs are growing, so is the amount of chat on our
Yahoo! boards. As many of you have no doubt noticed and some have
even commented on this is causing more work, duplication and
confusion for people who participate in multiple Yahoo! Chats - as
many of us do. In order to take a stab at addressing this the Texas
and Midwest Blues have decided to move their chat from Yahoo! to a
single Bulletin Board. Many of you who chat with other Blues around
the world will already know that the Bulletin Board solution is also
very popular, and the product we have chosen (phpBB) is one of the
more popular ones out there so we hope you will find it easy to use
and an improvement on the problems TX and Midwest blues members have
right now.
Please note that this solution is only being implemented by the
Texas and Midwest Blues at this point. Other clubs, including
primarily the NY and US Blues operate separately and will make their
own decisions on their chat solutions. This solution, however, is
still open to all Chelsea fans worldwide, just as the Yahoo! Chat
was, and may even expand to other groups as they form.
What we would like you to do, therefore, is to go to the Bulletin
Board (http://www.ChelseaInAmerica.com/bb), register and start using
it for all the discussions you would normally have on the Texas or
Midwest Blues Yahoo! chats. Once everybody has registered and is
chatting on the Bulletin Board we will lock the Texas and Midwest
Blues Yahoo! chats to prevent even more chaos (hopefully as soon as
the beginning of next week).
Once you join you may want to go to the Forum Help area and take a
look at the Quick Start posting to get you going or ask questions of
other users. We also have a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) forum
for you to get answers and information on using the bulletin board.
As with all discussion groups and bulletin boards the format will be
a living thing. Please provide input on your experiences once you
start using it as it's your input that will help us grow this board
and make it more informative and easy to use.
If you have any problems or questions please post back to this
thread.
I know that some of you are really into stats and all of that, so if you
are, you might want to take a look at this. Glyn is a member of the TXBlues
and has been purchasing these CDs for a while. If you are interested he is
willing to gather the names and then see if we can't get a discount for a
"bulk" order.
If you are interested please contact Glyn directly at glynwill@...
be sure and leave your name, group affiliation and e-mail address so he can
contact you directly.
Thanks,
Beth

I have been told that if we can get enough orders we can get a
discount on the Chelsea Database 1905-2005 CD. I won't know what the
discount is until I can tell them how many CDs are wanted. There is no
obligation at this time, but if you are interested, please let me know by

Priceless!!!!
CALM DOWN! CALM DOWN!
You could be forgiven for assuming that Liverpool fans would be relieved
when it was finally announced their club will get to defend its Big Cup
title next season. After all, they finished a distant fifth in the
Premiership, a whopping 38 points behind winners Chelsea and didn't actually
qualify for the competition. But having been on the receiving end of one or
two (billion) missives from paranoid Scousers over the years, The Fiver knew
better. So we weren't one bit surprised by the cacophony of ungrateful
wailing, weeping and teeth-gnashing triggered around Anfield when Uefa's
14-man executive committee decided over breakfast (today's menu: fudge,
fudge and more
fudge) to make "a special case" and allow the holders into the first
qualifying round of next season's Big Cup.
"Uefa have treated their own champions with contempt. To be told they have
to start in the first qualifier is wrong and a real kick in the teeth,"
whinged Les Lawson, spokesperson for the Liverpool International Supporters'
Club, upon hearing his team will be forced to play actual football matches
if they are to retain their shiny trophy. And while The Fiver agrees that it
would have been much fairer of Uefa to fast-track Liverpool into the last
five minutes of next season's Big Cup final with a two-goal lead, fans of
other teams will relish the possibility of the holders being eliminated in
the preliminaries by a team that has actually earned the right to be there.
Total Network Solutions or Shelbourne, for example. Or Everton.
Liverpool will have to play six matches to qualify for the group stages of
this year's Big Cup, with the first one pencilled in for - stop your
sniggering now - mid-July. Cue: the cancellation of a money-making tour of
fabled Scouse outpost Japan, and even more pompous, self-pitying whining:
"We are being treated like nobodies, we deserve to be treated with some
respect," howled Les. In the end, it was left to former player and assistant
manager Phil Thomson to inject a long overdue dose of humility into
proceedings. "We are delighted we are back in. It's a great decision for
football," he aye-ayed gratefully as a stampeding herd of angry Manchester
City fans thundered towards Soho Square, anxious to discover if they can
emulate the Koppites by whining their way into a certain recently-vacated
Euro Vase berth. So far, they can't.
[Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
This decision was wrong on so many levels. The season started with a set of
rules for qualifying and Liverpool fell far short of the qualifications
which should have been the end of it. The reward for winning the Champions
League, last time I looked, is a rather large trophy, which they were duly
presented. However, this is just another example of how bullies win in our
society. With the G14 and FA throwing their weight behind it, Liverpool
flexing their "history" muscle and key UEFA execs keen not to upset because
of upcoming elections there was no way this was not going to happen. In how
many other competitions do the champions automatically qualify for the next
season? Will Chelsea start next season with a 6 point head start, will
Arsenal enter the FA Cup at a later stage, will the winner of the London
Marathon get a 500 yard head start? NO in all cases and it should have been
no in this case, but as in so many walks of life we don't play on a level
field. What a great example to set our kids; if you don't like the decision
and you and your friends are big enough, harass and bully your way to your
preferred decision on a ticket of emotion, not logic or fact. Terrible,
spineless decision UEFA, and for once the FA stood by their beliefs and made
the right decission!

DVDs for my brother in Australia if its possible to get any more - I can
send a cheque if you let me have your address. My address is 1460 w
Hutchinson, Chicago 60613.
re the US tour I'll be on for a trip to Toronto as well as NY - I'm often in
Detroit so I can combine it with a work trip ;-) I expect a few of my
Chelsea pals from back home will be up for tickets and a place to stay -
when we know more about the tour I'll be asking for some ideas on
accomodation!

The youth coaching staff is coming over to run two clinics for kids later
this month, that is the top thing on the agenda. There is also talk that
other things are going on with this academy as the director used to coach at
Chelsea. They have a very good women's program as Paul's wife Shelly has
coached a number of women's squads in the Women's EPL, and played for the
England Women's Team. Roman has evidently been willing to develop the
women's and youth programs and has been talking with his checkbook again.
There is a lot of things going on, most of which is not set in stone, and so
I would hate to put up something that is discussion instead of fact. What I
can say is it directly relates to football at Chelsea and not fluff.
Considering current and future issues with UEFA, issues of marketing in the
US, and building their brand here, and supporting the women's team and the
younger men's team there is a lot going on. I am not in on the discussions
obviously, but Paul has been sharing a bit here and a bit there. The
coaching staff is here on the 19th and we are trying to work out a dinner,
one to get to know them and also to see if there is anything we can do here
as a group to help out.
What I can promise you is it has nothing to do with any other kind of
football or the ridiculous things that are done to make that boring game
more appealing to the male audience.
