While you were running your first interval last Tuesday one of the directories
of the cemeteries stopped by.
She was cordial, and even commented that we were welcome to use the cemetery
park when not in use....
However:
It was pointed out that we were not complying with all the rules.
Therefore, in the future:
1. DO NOT PARK ON THE GRASS.? Keep all four wheels on the pavement.? This is not
only a maintenance issue, but more importantly a respect issue.? Gravesites are
located close to the road, sometimes to the edge.? This is especially true in
the south end where there are no grave stones.? It appears unused but it is a
Pauper's Site with no headstones and does, indeed, extend to the side of the
blacktop.
2.?DO NOT TREAD ON THE GRAVESITES.? This is another respect issue.? I have
become very lax at this behavior myself.? That means no shortcuts across grave
lots, no using the headstones as benches for water bottles, etc.? Also, we
should put any spectator chairs, clothing, etc. on the roadway.....not on any
possible gravesite.
3.? Obviously, even with parking on the pavement with all four wheels, keep
single file so as to allow visitors easy access with their cars.
Those cemeteries are obviously great places for us to run.? We need to 100%
co-operate so that we can keep our dual use privileges.? As our group has grown
larger it is somewhat more difficult to be good citizens......but we can do it.?
Parking a distance away from the ruining route where it is most out of the way
for visitors and also complies with rules should not be a burden, after all we
are going to run three miles or so.? We can certainly park a distance away.
PS I promised her the next time she would check that we would be in complete
compliance.
