Thoughts on the Run July 2008
1. Good job during shuttle relay to not having any traffic jams on
the path.
2. Some runners had to do the SMART thing. They started to get
twinges of a muscle pull in the back of their legs and quit rather than
aggravating it further. There is a tendency for MMTC runners with their
competitive instincts to keep running rather than letting their partner down.
Pshaw! Your partner does not want to see you mess yourself up with an
injury. They will gladly accept your decision. After all, you would accept the
other person’s decision if it happened to them. Your partner will gladly
find a substitute way to do their own interval session without you. (Last
Tuesday we even had some late comers who could be substitutes for the in
juried).
3. Sometimes with 2 person or 3 person relays there is an odd
runner. That runner will be asked to shadow a runner of like speed. He/she
may not have the motivation of a “near race condition”, but can still get is
some worthwhile intervals. Jason Peabody, a very fast runner, did this last
Tuesday. Thanks Jason.
4. Remember doing an interval workout that the important thing is
your own individual beyond normal pace effort that is important, not your
relative speed to the other runners. Almost all MMTC’ers work hard…..some
happen to be faster than others when they are working equally hard.
