there is a nice 10k race this weekend in St Johns:
9th annual St Johns Pumpkin Trot 10k & 5k:

last year several people from MMTC ran in the events. this event is
kid friendly: there is a 1k run and kids dash run before the 5k and
10k. and lots of carved, painted pumpkins to look at :)
