Hi,
good to know that all is going well, enjoy the sailing!
Let me know when you are back in the London area with Microchip and I will come and see you guys.
In the meantime have a great summer of sailing.

Hi
Microchip now in Anglesey, and very clean and shiny. I've done the best
measure of the main and jib I could do singlehanded and have a main of
11.52sqm and a jib of 6.58, which seems to be well within the rules. I
also compared the original main with the new, and found it to be much
the same except at the very top where the roach reduces and the luff
length is shorter. I recall the previous owner mentioning some problem
with roach and backstay which resulted in a small alteration.
Any way, with most of the problems solved, and the huge outboard sold
and a smaller one bought, and the ocean-going out board bracket
removed in favour (I hope) of the plastimo minimilist one we look like
being all go for the straights..
Crew recruitment is on going for the Stour event, and Phillipe's home
event, and we'll see how it all goes.
Hoping for some advice re launching and moorings at Manningtree in due
course.

Monday Microchip heads north to Anglesey, more to do with having two
boats to get up there, and a visit of the electrician to finish the
loft conversion than a pressing need. I intend to take all the sails
etc up with me, and they won't return until after the summer. Hopefull
I will be able to do a quick rough measure some time, here or in Anglesey

water (a full bucket) lifted and still more lift available. So it
seems as if at least the intention was to be a production racer. She
is definately the first production Micro chip, unless she is the
plugs, but I dont think so. I've found no-one, including the designer,
who knows for certain whether there was a production run or not.

moved to a mini tonner, and then to a half tonner.I rather got the
feeling that the Micro Class was going to take off again as 1/4
tonners and mini tonners have, but I fear that I was deluded. Anyway
the secondary reason was to be able to take the grandchildren out
sailing at more than one at a time in a Mirror, or very wet in my blaze.

> Micro chip was a cutting edge design in her prime, but has been
allowed to decay a bit, and the systems were not very good. In
addition, from talking to both her recent sailmakers, no regard was
paid to the rules so the main has only one reef for example.
>
> To become "street legal" I need to add foam to the closed air tanks,
and to fit a second reef, and before I do that I really need to sail
against some other micros, which the Stour event will allow. Straights
regatta has just taken the PN from Windermere where Microchip has
spent most of her life. This afternoon, as I shift her on her trailer
by launching at QM I intend to test the stability.

and quite a lot of diesel only yo be rules out by Phillipe and his
tape measure when I get there.
