We have a fleet of eight Micros at Stour SC, a mix of Gems and
Micro18s, which are mainly sailed as an all-in class since we don't
consider there is much difference in overall performance between the
two designs taken over time.
Gems are generally considered here to be a bit faster in light winds
(less wetted area?), but Micro18s come into their own in more
breeze. I still comes down to how well the boats are sailed as to
which boat does better. We give a PY of 1060 to both designs when
raced in a handicap race, e.g. the club regatta.
The quoted PYs of 1050 and 1069 seem extreme in my experience.
My Micro18 has been given a different PY when raced elsewhere, but
I'm not sure what off-hand.
