I say mount speakers to the hull of every boat, canoe, paddle boat, kayak, windsurfer, sailboat, freighter, barge, and so on, crank up the heavy metal, start in Chicago or however north they've gotten, and drive them down to the Gulf for shark bait. Give everyone a shotgun to blast the ones that jump, the sharks can have what's left.  Oh, sorry, is that not p.c. ?   Bob Schoen

From what I know, they start jumping when there are motors running.  Hopefully they don't jump near our nice quiet pollution-free fins...  it's probably only a matter of time before they get into the Great Lakes.   :-(

Good job Glenn  :)

I was out on Coldwater Lake (at my parent's place where I grew up) on Tuesday afternoon.  I was out for about an hour and a half, and saw nothing else on the water besides geese, ducks and swans.  Did the sail around the island, which always brings back memories  :)

Sailed from 12:45 to 2:15 on my Prodigy with a 9.65 on Cass Lake (until my hands were numb). Planing 90% of the time. Great session!

Surprisingly, there was no one else out there. I mean, no one. Not a single other watercraft of any sort. Makes you wonder.

So, if this is the last sailing day on Cass Lake of the year, I'm proud to say that I started the season (March 29) and ended the season, both on 39 degree days with a little rain. Who says we have a short season in Michigan?!

I hope it's not over and we get one more warmer sailing day. Otherwise, bring on the ice!

Models now agree on a possible sailable S wind Wednesday and air temp forecasts have moved up to a high of 51F for the day. There will be clouds and some rain and wind may go WSW later in the day.

By Friday a strong NW flow brings winter air temps for several days so even the most optimistic people may be hanging up their wetsuits.

Longer range models are showing a S blow Tuesday that could be quite strong. Some rain is expected and air temps are now projected to reach 49F. The low driving this will also bring W wind Wednesday, but with much colder air.

Last session of the 2009 season?
Had to get out, it's been 10 days since the last outing at Marysville. Click here http://jsealyons. blogspot. com/ .
It looked light but I rigged the 5.0 Ezzy because it was the biggest sail I brought.
Attached it to the 101 RRD and debated if it was worth it or not.
Ron on his 7.5 wrapping things up, Jeff on a 7.5, Gerry on an 8.0 and Walt on his one and only 9.0, all are ripping. Millard waiting for steadier winds before he rigs and Craig on his way.
Sunny 48 air degrees probably 45 water degrees 8-20 mph NE wind.
Next step is to get the rubber on and once the rubber is on there is no waiting around.
Went out and had an unexpected good hour session before the hands needed a warm up.
Plenty of dense cold air to quickly get up on a plane with some nice smooth swells south of the
point to help keep the planning going. Did a few ducks, heli-tacks and quick down wind turns off the swell to keep the speed.
Although an odd direction I've never sailed there on a NE before. Your tack takes you toward the Clinton River
area. The area between the Lagoon launch and the Clinton River seemed to be where the best wind and swell was.
After a brief warm-up in front of the fire pit I went back out for a half hour session.
That's when the wind killer came and when ever he comes the wind shuts down ):
A total of 4 windsurfers on the water and about 5 kiters enjoyed a late season session.

Later models are moving the track of a not yet formed low pressure system closer to us tomorrow. There could be a decent E or ENE blow on Erie and some forecasters are predicting sun.

The wind may continue SE on Wednesday, but the system is supposed to weaken after that. Another similar flow could happen over the weekend.

Weather patterns are looking more like mid-summer doldrums for a week as all wind stays to our west or north. The S flow tomorrow that earlier we had hoped would be sailable has almost disappeared in the past several model cycles.

Next weekend has hope for a SSE flow, but air temps are dropping into the 40’s.

Long range models are showing another S flow this coming Saturday followed by a WSW blow Sunday.  Air temps are supposed to be in the upper 50’s to near 60F.

Models disagree on the path of Hurricane Ida, now in the Gulf, but if its track changes closer to us we could get a NE blast on Erie or Huron midweek. Air temps are projected to be low 50’s then.

Don’t look at the calendar. Just take advantage of any wind that comes our way.
