6/2/06 -Friday- Last Day
This was the day we had wanted all week. 20 knots on the outside and waves 4-5 feet on the reef. We had the smaller gear out (85 Litre and 5.8-6.2) Jumps were getting big and the back loops were tried. It was one of the hottest days yet, thus the trades kicking in finally. The Vela center was nearly full with about 28 renters on gear. My hands were not happy from blisters so the gloves finally came out. John is a JP convert, and amazingly, Chris likes the Starboards. Chuck was the last one in today after the wind died - taking it to the end. It was a great day of sailing the first of many more as next week is going to be good -too bad were leaving. Aftersailing, we signed up for another group dinner, this time for BBQ. It was about 10 minute taxi ride outside of town. We took a car taxi this time. It was called ricki's, owned by a couple of local surfers. It was basically their house, in the middle of nowhere, with a covered patio. I dont think they were prepared for 20 of us, but they got the job done. It took almost 3.5 hours from start to departure, but the food was worth it. BBQ pork kabobs. Yum! Bonus, we got to watch the Pistons lose on TV. Bummer. We got flack for that from everyone. Poor showing. By the time we left, it was 10:30, so we went to Ohno's and lax for a drink each, as a farewell to many evenings. By 12 ish we were home and asleep. Not looking forward to packing. It has been fun to meet all the folks from around the world here and to share the many laughs and stories. The dinner adventures to poor neighborhoods and mountain top locals are not normal or likely excursions at home. Truely memoriable experiences and likely to bring us back again.
