5/28/2006 - Waiting Game
Well - its a good thing we sailed last afternoon. forcast is not looking too good. We slept in till about 9:30. then we went to get money exchanged $1.00 US is about 32 pesos. You feel like a rock star carrying thousands of pesos. We also planned to get breakfast, but being Sunday, one of our favorites was closed. the whole town was a bit sleepy. We have had trouble getting used to "Cabarete time", everthing take two to three times longer than you are used to. No rush here. Good for vacation enforcement! Next, the grocery store, not exactly your Farmer Jack, but adequate. Some familiar brands like Doritos ect. Alchohol is normal brands as well, but a lot of euro brands and no decorations, colors ect. with adirtywarehouse feel. all business and less selection. We got what we needed, water, beer, chips, peanut butter a jelly basically. The wind looks light, as we approach noon, but we have done all of our chores, so we walk down to Vela to see what we see. Not much. We go out on some bigger stuff to test it out. I decide to hang-out, Chuck sailed all day, and John tinkered. Chris got Jens(owner) to break out the New Olympic Class equipment and he went out training for Bejing. All of the gear is again brand new. In fact, they replaced 10 sails today (I would have paid 200 for them!) because they were showing small cracks on the mono film or metal-x. If you punch them hard enough they blow open a hole in the sail. They dont want that happening when you go down in the waves on the reef. Wow! theywere in better shapethan most of my sails at home! Also 7 new boards pulled out of boxes today as well. The season has started and this is going to be a full week for guests, so they want to make sure thsy have three of every JP and Starboard model, as well as up to 6 of the popular sizes, 80-95 litres. That is Windsurfing Nirvana! We also got a peak at the New Pyrde Skinnies in 400 length.
Not much sailing (except chuck) but a decent day hanging out. We hit happy hour and had pizza on the beach at LAX! Not a bad day. In bed by 10pm enjoying the air conditioning!
