Subject: [MiWindsurf] IT'S BEEN TEN YEARS - AND COUNTING
All right. Where the he*l is everybody? Come on - give me some emails to
distract me from work - I have no time to be distracted - which is exactly
why I should be distracted.
Looking over the 'Summer Log Books' from the past four years and excluding
Hatteras - my first Detroit Sailing day has typically been the first week
of April - that's only 7 weeks away. The time will move quickly as
snowboarding season winds-down and the days get longer.
I'm feeling good about this season.
It's going to be windy.
It's going to be warm.
Metro Beach is going to be clean.
Sailors and Kiters will share these awesome sports in harmony.
Jet skiers and duck hunters will stay out of our way.
This is the last year for my main sails (4.6, 5.5, 7.0) - I'm buying new
stuff at season end.
I'm all set with boards: 2002 Naish 84 liters, 1999 Axxis 93 liters, 2000
AHD 113 liters - handles everything from my 3.7 to Retro 8.0.
I'm determined to get confident on the kite - safely launching and landing
without killing myself or anyone else and re-launching the kite in deep
water.
I hate the wrist safety leash on my Naish kite. Actually - for the most
part - I hate my entire Naish kite - I'm somewhat open to being talked
into buying a new 17.
Everybody - please somebody - anyone / you / me / us / them / the Members
of the Chicago Law Enforcement community - someone in the Detroit Sailing
scene must complete a forward or backward loop. I know several have made
good attempts at backward loops. I know I've been catapulted enough times
to at least try one - even if by accident. This is the summer that someone
nails it. All those close - cboardman, jsealyons, bmons - please make one
this summer for all our egos.
Everyone - get a good weed fin. I know there were several decent Metro
days last year that people couldn't sail because they simply didn't have a
weed fin. Modern weed fins are fast and slashy - blow $130 bucks and get
one.
Bring someone new to the beach and make an attempt at teaching them - the
sport needs at least a little growth to keep gear prices somewhat in-check,
to have a grass-roots organization if we ever want to make significant
changes at the major launch sites, to party more and to generally promote
the sport.
Anyone planning sailing trips? Let's hear em. Did the Janicki crowd
successfully return from Bonaire?
Everyone must make a sacrifice to the Wind Gods before April. I personally
will not drink any beer tomorrow night - Wednesday 2-18-04 - this is a
major sacrifice and I don't except everyone to match this cross I'll carry
- but everyone must make at least one sacrifice. The classic blond virgin
is also acceptable.
Think sailing. Start the chatter. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's
go. Let's go.
