JB - my last year - first day sailing was March 13, 2006 sailed 4.5M at Metro...a mere 5 weeks from now.......of course we need a little warming....
Highlights was of course 6 or 6 in Cabarete and 5 out of 5 in the Gorge all 4.7 and below highlight by a huge day at Arlington with Tim.....we rode the sweetest longest waves I've ever hit ...from the the blog....re-live it....
Monday 7/17/06- early b-fast with bagel girls (I call John to report in) its our best day! Nuking all over - mostly out east...off to Maryhill - 25-35winds G40+...We are the only ones at parking lot at 10AM, except for Jim (from Marlette, MI - we sail with at Lexington) who summers out at Gorge - he says we are at the right place...he rigs a 3.7M and >65ltr. tiny Open Ocean hull...smallest sails we have are 4 and 4.2M - too big - but rig anyway and hit water. Overpowered and overboarded with our 77ltrs. (Tim - RRD FSW 77 and Me Goya Pro FW 77) we sail for about 4 hours in the spray and fast moving 5-7ft. swells - sunny and 90+ degrees - haven't seen a cloud yet....by 2pm - we've had it - getting gusty and swells are not cleaning up. We make BEST decision to drive another 40miles east to Roosevelt Park. Awesome site - solid 25+ we rig 4.5 and 4.7 - this place is on Wash side across from Arlington and now we know why locals rave about it. Flat on inside until you get going - then OR side is WAVES! Long, long sets of big steep clean, waves 200-300 yards+ long (head and shoulder high) and clean, spaced out 15-20 feet apart. In fact when I sailed downwind into Arlington Cement plant pocket the waves are even bigger 8'+ so much so they block the wind and its lighter in the troughs and thus harder to keep pace with them (kiters love this section though). Both of us call it - "our best wave day ever" - we sail until almost 8pm - the wind never stops and there was less than 15 people sailng with us all afternoon....worth the 1.5 hour drive home by 10PM...very long day - dinner pizza slice and beer...and advil...
Ah - memories,,,,,more please....Chris
