The 2003 Subaru Iceman Cometh Challenge office has temporarily moved to
Grand Traverse Resort and Spa effective Wednesday, November 5, 2003. We will
be unavailable via email or phone until Monday, November 10, 2003.
Wednesday is moving and packet stuffing day. Thursday is devoted to marking
the trail. Friday is pure pandemonium at packet pick-up. Saturday is race
day. Sunday and Monday are spent cleaning up.
Most questions concerning the event can be answered on our www.iceman.com
web site.
Full results of the 2003 Subaru Iceman and Traverse Magazine Slush Cup will
be posted at www.iceman.com ASAHP.
Weather conditions are shaping up well with rain in the early part of the
week, dry in the middle, and cold temps bringing the possibility of snow for
the up-coming weekend. Trail conditions should be the best we've seen in
years.
We look forward to seeing you in a few short days!
Happy Miles!

Race Notes:
We had some problems with the video camera for the Citizens/Cat. 5 race, my
apologies, I will attempt to review the tape and try to get everyone a finishing
place.
In the Cat. 4 race, we were unable to see the number for the 15th place
finisher, the rider was wearing a black jersey and grey shorts. Any one know
who this might be?
One pair of leg warmers and a jacket were left at the race site.
For those that did not pick up prize money, I will try to get it in the U.S.

October 4, 2003, Michael R. Rabe Midwest Cyclo-Cross Championships UCI Category
3
With just four weeks to go until the first big weekend of 'Cross, Tailwind
Enterprises is proud to be putting on the Michael R. Rabe Midwest Cyclo-Cross
Championships. The event was renamed following the tragic accident that led to
Michael's untimely passing. Michael was a key player in the promotion of this
event. A portion of each entry will be donated to The Michael R. Rabe Memorial
Fund for Juniors.
Promoted by Robert Linden and Tailwind Enterprises, this event will take place
at Bloomer Park in Rochester, Michigan on Saturday, October 4. Bloomer Park has
become a paradise of sorts for cyclists of all types. The park offers miles of
singletrack mountain bike trails, has hosted several Cyclo-cross races including
two State Championships, and now houses one of the most aggressive velodromes in
the country. Cycling is not the only activity going on at Bloomer. There are
also cricket and soccer fields in addition to several playgrounds for the whole
family to enjoy. Just in time for the race will be the annual haunted hayrides.
The Michael R. Rabe Midwest Cyclo-Cross Championships will be the only UCI
sanctioned event in the Midwest. Being a UCI Category 3 event, in addition to
the $3350 in cash and additional merchandise prizes, points will be up for grabs
to the top 5 finishers in the Elite Men/U-23, Elite Women, and Junior
categories. The day's racing begins at 10:00am with the 'C' race and winds up
with the UCI Elite/U-23 race at 3:00pm. International (UCI) licenses will be
required for the Elite Men, Elite Women, and U-23 categories, and domestic USCF
or NORBA licenses will be required for participation in all other categories.
Licenses (including One-Day) will be available for purchase at registration on
race day.
To make it a full weekend of 'cross, Tailwind will also be holding the second
race in their Michigan series (non UCI) at Bloomer Park on Sunday, October 5.
For more information on either race, visit www.tailwind.net. Registration is
available from the web site, or at
http://www.bikereg.com/races/register.asp?EventID=1081.
Perhaps a first in US 'Cross racing will be the use of AMB-Elite Transponder
(www.amb-it.com) timing and scoring. This system of timing has been used for
years in NASCAR racing, and is now entering the bicycle racing arena. Racers
will wear the Transponder attached to their ankle so as to allow for bike
changes if necessary, and will be tracked each time they cross the antenna wire
buried in the racecourse.
This event would not be possible without the help of our many sponsors:
Antoon's Bicycles & Snowboards, Cane Creek, ClifBar, CyclocrossWorld.com,
Dynamic Rehabilitation Centers, Kinetic Systems Bicycles, Flying Rhino Cycling
Club, Giant Bicycles, Honey Stinger, Jack's Bicycles and Fitness, KLM Bike &

For all those that have found my mistakes in the latest standings, thank you.
My apologies for not correcting the standings sooner, but I have just returned
from vacation and should have the corrected standings uploaded by Saturday,
August 9th.
There have been numerous questions on the Rose City results. The results I
received for many of the categories did not go 15 places deep, some only 10 or
12 places deep. My suggestion is to get with the promoter and/or chief referee
for the event and see if the complete results can be forwarded to me.
As always, thanks for your continued support.

The Rockford Criterium is on, always has been on, never was off. What is
different is that it is not part of the Michigan Challenge Point Series or
Michigan Challenge Event Schedule.
The website indicates that "Updated the Michigan Challenge Event Schedule
(removed Rockford Criterium and added Rose City Criterium)". This means
that the Rocford Criterium was removed from the Michigan Challenge and the
Rose City Criterium was added to the Michigan Challenge. If one pages down
and looks at the calendar, the Rockford Criterium is still shown as a link
for Sunday, August 24. Selecting that link will display the contact
information for the event. No where does the website indicate that the
event has been removed from the Michigan Racing calendar or that the event
was cancelled.
I will update the website tonight or tomorrow indicating in big bold
letters that the Rockford Criterium is still on to eliminate any confusion
for those that are "webpage scrolling challenged".
One last time, the Rockford Criterium scheduled for August 24th, as
indicated on the Michigan Road Racing Calendar (and in the flyer sent to
everyone last week or so) is still scheduled to occur. What has changed is
that it is not part of the Michigan Challenge Point Series as originally
indicated on the website.

Steve,
I am still getting calls and e-mails about our race being cancelled. It is
clear that people do not understand the meaning of your update and are
taking it
to mean that the race has been cancelled not removed from the Michigan
Challenge Series (which we never were a part of).
Unless this is clarified, I am afraid there are riders who will just assume
the race is off without contacting me and will not attend. Anything you can
do
will be greatly appreciated.

I guess I have caused some confusion with my update to the Road Racing calendar.
