On Sunday, March 2nd, the 25-plus Michigan bike racers, promoters,
officials and club representatives in attendance in East Lansing,
formally authorized the creation of the Michigan Bicycle Racing
Association. The MBRA will be assuming many of the administrative
functions formally done by USCF and Mike Hanley. Draft MBRA by-laws,
the Memorandum of Understanding with USAC, the proposed structure and
Advisory Board members were discussed, and approved.
MBRA membership will be open to all USCF Officials,USCF Clubs and all
race promoters who have or will have promoted a race in the past or
current calendar year. For the first year no membership fees are
anticipated and we hope to use this year to determine in what ways we
can better serve the needs of our members and of Michigan bike
racers. (Initially, the MBRA will be handling most of the local
administrative responsibilities for USCF, the road racing arm of USAC
and not mountain biking. The MMBA does an excellent job of working
with mountain biking, and there is no need to duplicate their
efforts.)
Question can be directed, for now, to Paul Alman, via email at
paul@.... A new website, www.mbra.org should be up and
running in a couple of weeks, and will contain, ultimately,
information and links of interst to all Michigan road racing cyclists.
